    Review by Jennifer Toole
With the overabundance of culinary talent in Vancouver, restaurateurs are constantly seeking out new and interesting selling points for quality cuisine. The prevalent trend in locavore restaurants held precedence for about a year, but has since petered out leaving room for something new to take the city by storm. It seems that new trend lies in Sukiyaki.

Sukiyaki is a meal that you cook yourself in a big silver bowl on a burner that is embedded in the middle of the table you share with your guests. It’s just like a mini wok and you get to wrap your legs around the gas tank, which can be a pleasant thing to do in the midst of winter. First the Japanese cabbage smothered in sukiyaki sauce heats to a simmer. Then your choice selections from the lengthy mix of extra ingredients are tossed in courtesy of, well, you and cooked to perfection.

The sukiyaki at Posh is Osaka style, which means it turns out to be more of a hot pot than a soup dish. Diners receive a kettle of concentrated soy and organic fruit broth and a kettle of water to dilute it. The broth is cooked up with sweet Chinese cabbage and the guest’s choice of about thirty ingredients including beef, pork, tofu, shitake mushrooms, chrysanthemum leaves, pumpkin chunks and rice cakes. An egg is cracked into a side bowl for dipping cooked ingredients into post-pot and pre-plate.

The interior is fitted with wood paneled walls, white leather chairs, warm red booths and black stone tables. The gas stove tables and the impressive hood fans over the booths give the eatery a futuristic feel. It feels like if you cooked your sukiyaki just right a little munchkin from Mars would shoot out of the hood fan to give you a congratulatory high five.

Loved this place ever since it opened. I'm big into food, especially meat and this place has got it. Although I have to say, they have to get a bigger place.

Then of course, I try their burnaby location, right next to home. Seating isnt the greatest, only one large table but for the most part, does the job. And cute young asian waitresses.

Recommended by a friend, I was thrilled to come to this restaurant. Being a foodie himself, I was willing to experiment. As a matter of fact, I didnt even know what the heck sukiyaki was.

A guy happen to serve us, I think he was the manager. I was quite frankly impressed to see that with a inexpensive restaurant. We were expecting for the level of service but the food I have to say was a bit slow.

On a saturday night, I felt that they ultimately should have enough staff on board. Heck, I'd even pay a bit more for that.

The food was quite unique. It was a new experience. I'd definitely come back. Oh yes, I aint sure about the authenticity but the improvements are pretty awesome. BLACK FUNGUS!?!

I have only tried the w Broadway location, but Im sure the one in Richmond is the same.
Here is another pathetic attempt by the chinese to imitate Japanese food and culture. Not one person in the staff is native japanese. There is one Japanese/Canadian waitress with horrible service, and very unprofessional.
First off lets take a look at my first impression of this restaurant. I had arrived with a Japanese woman thinking that we were about to eat authentic Japanese cuisine. When all the veggies and meat arrived I had then realized that this was definetly NOT authentic. Japanese sukiyaki does NOT contain bamboo shoots, pumpkin, tomato, yam, rice cake, bok choy, carrot, green beans(wtf)...etc..etc..etc. The food had no flavor what so ever, the service was horrible(I tipped 60 cents), and they have nothing else on the menu to offer. Also their claim to carry all organic veggies is also a farce. The bamboo shoots, canned, everything else, definetly not organic.
Do they really think that people will believe that their pumpkin, bok choy etc, etc is organic?
I obviously don't like this restaurant, but how can you blame me when all the advertisments and reviews are false. thanks for listening, and take my advice. Youd be better off at home boiling an onion with white rice.
