inally the void at the corner of Robson and Homer is satisfied. The eclectic space that was abandoned by Voda Nightclub (which had given this ‘hood a kick of excitement) was sadly empty for months. Surrounded by the Vancouver Public Library, Starbuck’s and the Weston Grand Hotel, this intersection was sorely lacking in inspiration.
Then along came Michael Jahnke, a pub and hotel business veteran who decided to utilize the space with Jimmys Tap House, and the adjacent Jimmys Cold Beer and Wine Store, filling the void quite aptly. Making the most of the wide sidewalks and sunny location, Jahnke has shot some youthful vitality into this otherwise potential-laden corner.
The Tap House offers mainstream fare at reasonable prices. Being on the path directly leading to both GM Place and BC Place, Jimmys is already snagging the young sports fans who trample on down to watch the games.
The space is nothing fancy, but it’s a personal, somewhat sports bar vibe; a large square room, with a bar at one corner and seating to fill out the middle. Although the style is minimalist and trendy, I still found it a tad boring. The furniture - although slick and upscale - left me feeling cold. The space seats about 80 people and the sidewalk patio around 30.

I am always happy to see an new funky environment. I was severely dissapointed with Jimmy's. Myself and a friend had gone in to catch the end of the hockey game and have a few drinks last Thursday evening. I was impressed to walk in and find it about 3 quarters full with a lot of staff on hand.
The experience quickly took a turn for the worse when it took no less than 15 minutes for a server to come and take our drink order. After which it took her another 10 minutes to bring us our drinks. The beers were big and ice cold, but the fact that the service staff spends more time chatting by the kitchen then bringing us our order soured the entire experience. Needless to say that after one drink we headed to the Library Square.
It will be a hard sell to get me back there.

Myself and a group of work colleagues went to try Jimmys after work on a friday afternoon. We were excited at the prospect of having a new spot with a cool patio just around the corner from the office and decided to try it out. We grabbed some seats at a cool oval table by the bar and ordered a round of pints, which were delivered in ice cold frozen glasses. I was very impressed by the service and food, everyone was very attentive and friendly, the music was great and everywhere we looked there was a big plasma screen tv to look at. The martini and cocktail selection was excellent; we travelled up and down the list trying some tasty concoctions especially the sour peach martini and "bird dogg" cocktail. Looks like we found our new spot! No attitude, a cool room and great food and drinks. Definitely worth a try!

where do i begin?
we were there on a friday after work - first round of drinks went fine. second round, not so good - later with food, 1/2 of the table got what they ordered, the rest of us not so much....they offered to get what was ordered at no charge but it never showed up. we had to wait for cutlery too, another at the table saw the manager drop it on the floor then bring it to us....
the service overall was unbelievable - the girl that was our server couldn't take an order without a pen and still got it wrong, that is if she even came by the table....finally i went to the bar for a round of shots and the bar tender gave some girl sitting at the bar one of the shots i had ordered for free, while i'm standing there paying for 4. When i made a comment he just shrugged and smiled - not cool!! if he wanted to get in with the slut at the bar at least wait till i'm gone!
then the bill, we all knew it was going to be something else....and yes it was. All kinds of things that had already been paid for, food that never came, drinks that had never been ordered - she took it back 3 times and it still wasn't right - we paid for what we had, absolutely no tip. we were ready to get the manager involved but he was no where to be found.
