When they updated the MODA Hotel with an expensive series of renovations, the owners knew that the restaurants needed to remain equally impressive. So they brought in a hoitghy toighty chef all the way from the River Café in London.

Chef Neil Taylor's cuisine is based on Italian fare, and complemented by seasonal British Columbian ingredients. Flavourful dishes get their panache from broths, as opposed to sauces, keeping everyone in slim summer shape. What won't keep us trim? The Spinach Ricotta Ravioli, and English Pea and Mint Risotto; but our sources say they are delicious, and totally worth sporting a one piece for. And if you're going to go that route, do it well. Crispy Polenta and delicate deep-fried Courgette Blossoms are a satisfying comfort. The restaurant clearly takes pride in their ingredients; they tasted dozens of olive oils before they were able to pick the right one. The menu is paired with an immense wine menu of over 125 varieties from Italy and the Okanagan Valley.

The service should be no less than stellar; General Manager is Sahara Tamarin, brought in from Lumiere and Chow. While you dine on traditional Italian fare, admire the rustic qualities (trust us, it's complete) of exposed timber beams, a terracotta floor that goes back to 1908, and a floating marble fireplace. Plus it's convenient with the Orpheum Theatre around the corner. Cibo caters to the pre-threatre crowd with a $35 set menu. –C.S.

Nothing fancy here, just good food quick.

The food was very good. but for what you got, the location and the portions, it was exceedingly overpriced. I got the special, which is a usual and for $30.00+, i was left hungry, this was especially true because of a salad that was just a few bites.

Thoroughly enjoyed a meal here last week. I was in with a large group and the service was perfect. Drinks and bread baskets were promptly refilled, wine was flowing, servers were really helpful...

Overall it was a great experience and I am looking forward to going back with a smaller group to enjoy their more intimate setting.

decor doesn't feel completely cohesive or cozy, not sure if it suits the rustic/fresh vibe of the cooking.

service efficient. sommelier was a standout, knowledgeable and very helpful.

food was fresh, vibrant. pasta is wonderful, offal was unctuous, fish perfectly cooked and seasoned...only thing that marred the evening were desserts (simultaneously bland, overly tart, and strangely salty). i made a comment to server (when she eyed the half-eaten plates) but comment back from kitchen was condescending and frankly, b.s. hmm. so get the first 3 courses and skip dessert - save it for some gelato elsewhere!

Cibo is definitely a place to check out if you haven't been there. Great small plates! There was a little bit of a wait, but that's to be expected. Great cozy atmosphere and wonderful service!

Spinach Riccotta Ravioli. Fast service. Good vibe. Have a drink on the bar while you wait but don't waste your money on the fancy martinis. Pricey but a good excuse to get dressed up. If you can wait for dinner go after 1030pm and there's no wait.

Not a bad entry to the restaurant world. Lots of kinks to work out though.
