re you one of those spice junkies who refuses to eat anything unless you’re quite sure that it will make you sweat at some point? If so, that’s weird…but, nonetheless, there is a new restaurant in town that just might be up your alley. It’s called Chilli Padi and it specializes in Malaysian cuisine.
Not sure what Malaysian cuisine has to offer… or why it should be up your alley? Well, it’s essentially a fusion of Indian curries and butter chicken, Chinese rice and noodle dishes, Thai fare, and Eurasian recipes, all filtered through local Malaysian ingredients and techniques to take on a fresh and exciting flavor. For fans of spice, it’s culinary nirvana on estrogen-replacement therapy.
The restaurant is owned and operated by the husband and wife team Adam and Linda Rahman. While the pair has been involved with catering companies in the past, this is their first restaurant endeavor and the results are pretty impressive for restaurant virgins. The space they have chosen is small, but cozy enough. A faux rock façade and a gas fireplace adorn the walls, while wood furnishings complete the relaxed yet respectable environment. There are six tables and two booths, but if anything this adds to the Malay experience.
Perhaps this cute-and-tiny personality has its origins in the restaurant’s name: “Chilli Padi,” one of those terms which are used more often as denigration than as compliment. But the menu, however, is comprised of Malaysian comfort food, so the intimate space almost makes it feel as though you are enjoying a meal in the Rahman family dining room.
