The entire Alpha experience was rather charming. The service was personable, the restaurant wasn't too crowded and the food was lovely. If you are looking for high-end Japanese food, this is a great choice. As well as a satisfying cuisine, the nook-ish Alpha boasts a homey vibe that transports you away from downtown. - L.H.

As a person with food restrictions, I found the staff extremely accommodating to my needs and enjoyed a delicious meal.

I should have read the visual cues when I walked into this place! Never go to a sushi bar where you cannot see the kitchen or smell food. The seating was black captain's chairs a little too low for the table beside windows blasting a chill. Out one window we could see the comings and goings of the homeless shelter and the other provided a view of Madame Cleo's service club for men.
The food was most unpalatable. Spicy tuna roll was without spice and the tuna was whipped into a gluey paste. All sushi rice was also gluey, with a stale dry exterior. Agedashi tofu had a distinct McDonalds flavour and was coated in a gluey (again!) skin that slid between my teeth. It floated in a starchy brown vaguely Asian sauce most likely from a large vat 'o' sauce, as it was presented with everything. Most horrible was the salted mackerel. A seagull appeared to have done the plating, with the head's former place a gaping dark skin. One small bite was all I could force down once I picked away the bones. We left hungry, cold and resentful. Stay away.
