omething strange happens on one's first visit to Abigail’s Party. Common reactions include accelerated speech patterns accompanied by wider-than-normal smiling. A sense of heightened romantic activity pervades the European-styled eatery. This unassuming restaurant offers up culinary adventure.
Billing itself as "Kitsilano's premiere tapas & wine bar," Abigail's party got in early on the small-bite trend. Owned and operated by the Hell's Kitchen and Nevermind crew, Abigail's boasts funk furnishings (champagne tables!) and a menu with tapas-sized portions of innovative dishes like Honey and Cilantro Wentzel Duck Breast with honey and soy marinade. Try the excellent Crusted Australian Lamb Rask or the Sarsparilla Short Ribs. - R.B. |

I had heard decent reviews of Abigail's Party but gave it a chance for dinner this month. The service was very slow, despite the fact that for much of our meal, we were the only table inside. They were out of many menu items (very disappointing) and when our meals arrived, I was not impressed. The portobello burger was sad and small - the bun was stale, I couldn't detect any mayonaise/aioli and it had three sad pieces of mesculun greens on it. Very dry. The beef burger was teeny and looked no better than something you'd get at a fast food place. Definitely not what I was expecting. I will not be going back.

I had heard from a few people that this was a funky cool spot. Funny how they never mentioned anything else about it and for good reason. I had a very poor experience at Abigail's Party last night. We had gone for dinner in a small group of three, were quickly greeted and seated but no one returned for 15 minutes to take a drink order. We proceeded to order our drinks and then waited yet again for a server to return, there was one other group of two people inside and 4 groups on the patio with two very friendly wait staff. The two ladies serving were smiling and friendly, but were not attentive or organized.
Before we even had a chance to order we were informed of everything that was not available on the menu...this is Vancouver where product is readily available?!? I will admit the Goat Cheese Pave was very good and original. After requesting a wine list before our entrees arrived we never had a server return to ask us of our decision on a wine, instead our plates were dropped at the table and she left. Once we had made our wine order she then went about forgetting to bring us the wine, and then only bringing one glass. It was so painful it was almost funny. There was never an apology made by the staff which was very disapointing.
At the end of the meal I found the food very plain and unsatisfying. That combined with the lack of attentive staff I would be hard pressed to return to this place.

Highly impressive when you first enter, but it's all downhill from there. They lost my reservation, made a mistake with our food orders, forgot the desert and still charged us. We were also served by a cocky arragant waiter. The menu is highly deceptive and be prepared to pay $5 extra on top of anything you order. Ridiculous. Overall, you pay for ambience and even that loses it's effect... P.S. don't expect to have dinner in under 3.5 hours - the service is very, very slow.
