How sexy can a vacuum cleaner get? Well, Dyson has reinvented the way you vacuum with the DC15 Ball Vac. It might not immediately seem revolutionary, but the DC15 works very differently from traditional upright vacuum cleaners, by replacing conventional wheels with a ball. Dyson engineers have developed an entirely new type of vacuum cleaner, with a ball instead of wheels, so it twists and turns like no other vacuum.

Traditional upright vacuum cleaners can be hard going, especially in small spaces. You crash into chairs, bash into bookcases and scuff the skirting boards, unaware that the machine is controlling your movement, rather than the other way around. Traditional upright vacuum cleaners can be heavy, unwieldy and difficult to steer, making cleaning your home something of a workout. Dyson's team of engineers and designers realized this problem so they went about designing a vacuum cleaner that was designed to move and make cleaning less effort. It can be tiring, frustrating and often, due to the lack of control, you miss whole areas of your home.

Because The Ball™ can tilt and pivot (unlike conventional wheels), a simple turn of the wrist allows you to steer through a wide arc, making it easy to manoeuvre around furniture and obstacles. Instead of rigid wheels, it has a single ball that allows it to glide around furniture. Just by turning your wrist, you can easily steer into the most awkward nooks and crannies - under the desk, around the sofa, and behind the TV. The secret to the DC 15 is the ball at its core. The vacuum cleaner is based around a ball rather than the two standard wheels for getting around your living room. The idea is to speed up cleaning by getting rid of the forwards-backwards motion you normally associate with cleaning and therefore make a device that is far more manoeuvrable around the house.

Because The Ball™ can tilt and pivot (unlike conventional wheels), a simple turn of the wrist allows you to steer through a wide arc, making it easy to maneuver around furniture and obstacles. To keep the center of gravity low and increase maneuverability, the motor of the DC15 has been mounted inside of the ball. The balls rubber treads prevent slipping and protect hard floors. To maintain contact with the floor at all times, even while turning a corner, the DC15's low profile cleaner head is attached to the main vacuum by a single pivot point. In our tests and usage over the last couple of weeks (the wife has been so pleased that we’ve shown a strong interest in the cleaning all in the name of work) we have to admit this claim is true. Cleaning is faster and getting around the room and furniture in it a lot quicker and easier, however there has been a catch.

Is Dyson’s DC15 Ball is a whopping $600, and is already garnering the opinion that it’s, in fact, too much vacuum for the typical home (it can vacuum up nails from a six-inch drop), but the vacuum is a powerful, easy to manoeuvre and well-made, though a bit of overkill. And others spend the day vacuuming up nails from a six-inch drop, vacuuming has never been so much fun.

I gave it 3 stars because even tho I absolutely love it I just wish the clear plastic tube was just a bit longer OR there was a smaller attachment to put on the end
