The experience of great sounding speakers can change the way you listen to music. Riffs seem bolder, arias are crisper and the bass line keeps house parties going even longer. When it comes to providing unmatched sound, Bang & Olufsen is a company that cannot be beat. And, their new BeoLab 9 speakers are one of their higher-end products that will leave you with your jaw on the floor.

Everything about these speakers has been meticulously designed and the well-thought out functions have led to the form of these slender, conical (and slightly odd-looking) speakers. The speakers are designed to be at optimal height for a seated listening position. Acoustic Lens Technology (ALT) ensures that vibrations from speakers are eliminated and that the sound remains uniform no matter where in the room the listener is. Each speaker is outfitted with a 10-inch bass driver that will have your body thumping, without the noisy vibrations of a souped-up Honda Civic.

The speaker is also replete with a 5-inch unit sealed in a pressure chamber that is responsible for mid-range sounds. This pressure-chamber-stowed unit is typical of most B&O speakers and is responsible for their signature, unparalleled sound. Plus, it gives you an excuse to tell your friends your speaker is so high-tech that it contains its very own pressure chamber. How random/cool is that? Maybe it’s like the hyperbaric chamber that former hand-model J.P. Prewett used in Zoolander to preserve his prized limb. Or maybe not.

Measuring in at 80 centimetres, this lovely pair of speakers come in red, black, blue or grey. They’re a perfect addition to any audiophile’s collection, although at a cost of approximately $9,950, you’d better be serious about your sound. For those afraid to dole out that amount of money on speakers, allow me to remind you of one more reason why you should: those tinny speakers on your laptop. Enough said. –D.C.
