Pacemaker
By Phil Brown
o you know a wannabe Fatboy Slim or a RZA in training? Because emerging DJs have just been issued their new favourite toy. Tonim AB Electronics have created The Pacemaker: the first pocket-sized DJ system. Never again will cumbersome turntables have to be carried onto a bus for public mixing. Now the power of the beat can be wielded in the palm of your hand.
This isn’t your granddaddy’s pacemaker that merely regulates his heartbeat; this little beauty packs all the technical requirements of a professional DJ into one convenient, pocket-size product. Anyone lucky enough to get their hands onto one of these babies will be able to upload any music from their computer to be mixed and altered on The Pathfinder. All songs created with the machine can be saved on the go, meaning that you could possibly create a masterpiece on the toilet and then upload it to myspace within minutes.
The Pacemaker sports two separate input and out channels, a 120 GB hard drive, a variety of audio adjustments, effects and filters, as well as two thumbpads for all your virtual scratching needs. The battery life lasts for 18 hrs, which means that you’ll even be able to mix tracks in public for a full day after the apocalypse (unless you can charge batteries in a post-apocalyptic world, in which case you can do it indefinitely). Sure the Ipod was fun, but why merely listen to music in public when you could be mixing your very own dance tracks in a public elevator? –P.B.
