ontemporary art is always deeper than it seems at a glance. Chan-Hyo Bae and Clare Samuel's photographs have so much to them, a voyeur could think of thousands of explanations for each photo, one of which would probably include "that's kind of weird." Samuel's photographs focus on children and the idea that every generation is born in the shadow of the previous one, but children have this potential in them to allow for change – everything is about the children. Bae's photographs might seem a little more out there as they are self-portraits… with him dressed as a woman… well, a Victorian queen to be exact. The images actually, though, mean something quite different than many might assume (um, drag). The point of doing this was to show how Bae feels as an immigrant from North Korea who had always dreamed of living out that fantasy life in the western world, yet he is not accepted. Well, we accept you… so, um, you can take the dress off now. – M.K.
