Toronto Galleries
on't you love it when a painting is so detailed, so magnificent that it looks just like a photograph? I do; but I just discovered something that is, perhaps, even more incredible. Sylvia Sokolowska's new exhibit called Doll House displays photographs that look like paintings; the lighting and movement are exquisite and so soft, which is the point because it is too aesthetic to be realistic. Not only that, but she is a feminist and this makes me love her even more. The context behind her series focuses on how the media affects women and body image the name Doll House stems from the idea that todays ideologies encourage women to make themselves look like living dolls it is sad that the less realistic something looks, the more beautiful we perceive it to be; Sylvia is sending an incredible message.
