These days Toronto's economy is looking up. And the restaurant world? Well, that's looking up too…uptown, that is. Salvatore Mele, owner of thriving midtown Italian restaurant, Capocaccia, is just about to sign the papers to acquire Lake Restaurant's former space for his new concept.
Flirting with the name Capo for the new haunt, the Capocaccia offshoot will function as a traditional Italian vineria. Focusing on pairing wines with a rotating menu of Italian style tapas and charcuterie, the Toronto restaurant will feature items such as polenta French Fries, truffle frites and housemade pappardelle with cream sauce and fresh truffles.
As for the space, Lakes will really have to rest in peace as Mele plans to employ HGTV's Anna Simone to entirely recreate the space. Expect an open, rustic atmosphere with little clutter and elevated ceilings…But don't expect to get in without a wait. – E.H
The Rosedale restaurant plans to open at the end of February/beginning of March 2010.
