Location: 1168 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON
Start making reservations now: the folks from Czehoskis and Harbord Room are at it again. Harbord Room owner Dave Mitton has teamed up with Jeff Salvian for his newest venture, an as-yet unnamed bar on Queen West near The Gladstone in the former Cock & Tail space. It's a small space, but when you combine the high-profile personnel with the hipster-rich area it's sure to create a perpetually busy, trendy watering hole.
Bradley Denton, an it-designer if there ever was one, has taken the design helm, while Chef Cory Vitiello, also of Harbord Room and formerly of The Drake, will handle the extremely-small kitchen. The fare will be mostly small plates, "fun, dirty, and cheap bar food" as Mitton puts it, and nothing on the menu will exceed $10. The focus here will be on the bar, which will dominate the space. The suds'll be flying, with about 12 beers on tap and twenty by the bottle, while the drink list, designed by Mitton, will be even more classic cocktail-centric than Czehoski and the Harbord Room.
The concept, it seems, was easy; the hard part is the name. The boys will actually be running a contest with the general public to determine the name, and the winner will receive a $1000 bar tab at the new spot. How 'bout Queen Street Room? Do I win? – R.T.
