Location: 541 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON

Tripping home down Queen West, I noticed a familiar sign: "Leslieville Cheese Market and Fine Foods," rendered in instantly recognizable font and colour scheme. Slightly tuned and wobbly, I instantly thought, "Damn, I've passed out on the eastbound Queen streetcar, missed my stop, and ended up on the east side again." Alas, I was mistaken. I was looking at the home of Leslieville Cheese Market and Fine Foods (LCM) part deux.

An offshoot of the Queen East and Logan staple, LCM 2.0 takes the familiar paradigm and name across town, setting up in the always fluid section of Queen between Bathurst and Spadina. According to manager, Christie Silversides, the long, narrow space next to Java at Queen Street West and Augusta will be "bursting with cheese."

Featuring over 140 cheeses from throughout the world, the roster is globe traipsing, purportedly malleable, and inherently inclusive. Along with the main event (i.e. cheese), look for abetments like spreads, crackers, and daily-made bread (thus servicing the "Fine Foods" section of the moniker).

In addition to the titular products, the original LCM features a catering menu, gift baskets, and cheese seminars. Look for this incarnation to be similarly versatile. Also, look for grilled cheeses.

Scourge or saviour, the grilled cheese can be one of the most contentious concoctions in the sandwich world. However, with five different manifestations intended -- Silversides says choices will include "one from every cheese family" -- placation should prove easy. -S.T.

Leslieville Cheese Market is now open.
