If there's anything Toronto East Enders love, it's brunch. Well, actually everyone loves brunch, but on Queen Street East it's practically a way of life, a major aspect of the neighbourhood's casually welcoming vibe. It was more than a bit surprising to see Leslieville's vegan-eatery Pulp Kitchen hit the dust, but its replacement. Lady Marmalade will likely fit like a glove.
If you've ever spent any time in British Columbia, you may be familiar with the name. Lady Marmalade has already become quite renowned in Victoria for its all-day breakfasts and lunches, and its healthy homemade cuisine. Carla Cherry started the restaurant with her brother David after 12 years of cooking in Mexico. David, originally from Toronto, will be mostly running the new location, but continuing the focus and concept so well-established in Victoria.
Expect locally sourced ingredients, organics, and Mexican-infused Canadian and American brunch standards. Lady Marmalade relishes the opportunity to show that healthy food can also be comfort food. Granola is homemade, juices are house-infused, and coffee fair-trade (possibly even straight from Victoria). Like the original, the décor will be mostly made of recycled thrift store items and donated materials, establishing a down-to-earth funky vibe that we've come to expect from Leslieville eateries.
