Location: 70 Fraser Avenue, Toronto, ON
I don't think it would be a stretch to group Brad Moore with other Toronto chefs like Jamie Kennedy and Susur Lee, "celebrity" chefs whose reputations precedes their cooking. The circumstances of Moore's departure from the much-heralded Xacutti are still somewhat vague and mysterious and his tenure at Eleven was short-lived. Moore just can't seem to stay out of the limelight. At the end of November, his newest venture will open and afford more glorious opportunities for foodie gossip.
School Bakery and Café will be the latest high-profile hotspot to open in Liberty Village, taking over the location from the troubled Warehouse Grill. The place is a joint venture between Moore and Sean D'Andrade (The Drake, Harbord Room), who will act as VP. When asked what kind of cuisine would be served, Moore replied "good food". So the menu may be a bit indistinct, but the theme isn't. The design will follow a "School Nostalgia" theme and the menu will be divided into Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch, Detention, and Night School. Expect drinks, destination-quality food, and a playful atmosphere. - R.T.
School is only open on Sundays until January. |
