sunglasses, ravished bride of pompousness, you will ever earn our praise. Your elegant pithiness, your malleability on the face of a discerning wearer, the beautiful gloss and shine of your slender frame - so much more like life than a clean-scrubbed, yet unadorned face. Fortunately for us purists and Luddites, the big T provides no paucity of spots to buy big-budget shades.
Now, another has been added to the mix. After months of renovations, Ilori has opened its alluring doors, confidently taking over the vacated Far Coast space; barristas are out, at Bloor and Saint Thomas, and "Sunglasses stylists" are in.
Designed by architect Craig Nealy, the face-lifted space features plush seating and Lucite cases, best to show off those Prada and Dolce gems. First you take in the boutique design - a narrow but airy corner space under a high-glass ceiling, a slick, big-budget space quite suited for the area.
Then, you zoom in on the sunglasses: all exclusive high-end models from lines like Tom Ford, Phillip Lim, Fendi, Versace, Derek Lam, Balenciaga, and sunglass stylist Rick's fave, Oliver Peoples. It's a regular sunglasspalooza.
With locations in Soho, L.A. and San Juan, the Toronto store on Bloor –amongst the likes of Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and… Labels For Less? - is creating quite the buzz.
It's luxury, high-fashion sunglass boutique to the core. And yes, it can be an intimidating retail experience if you don't quite rank as part of that big-spender crowd, or if you’re not apt to drop a couple of grand on a pair of sunglasses. Just remember, it’s only shopping.
