    DIARY OF THE DEAD
    Friday, September 14 - 11:00pm
    Director: George A. Romero

Not just for adolescent-girl whimsy, diaries are fair game for zombies - though, there handwriting tends toward chicken scratch. Seemingly old school in this blog age of self-aggrandizement, diaries well befit the typically introspective dead. Diary of the Dead , George A. Romero's latest Dead film, returns to the beginning to skewer the media, zombie-social-criticism style. Nothing satirizes better than flesh eating. -S.T.

    TRUMBO
    Saturday, September 15 - 9:15 AM
    Director: Peter Askin

The story of a loveable circus elephant with adorably large ears that furnish him with flight capability - oh, no that's something else. Peter Askin's documentary, Trumbo, examines Dalton Trumbo, famed screenwriter (Spartacus), novelist (Johnny Got His Gun), communist, and blacklistee. Something tells me that McCarthy won't come off well. Interviewees include Liam Neeson, David Strathairn, Paul Giamatti, Michael Douglas, Joan Allen, and others. -S.T.

    SMILEY FACE
    Saturday, September 15 – 11:45 AM
    Director: Gregg Araki

Who knew that an acclaimed film festival like TIFF would produce at least two separate screwball stoner flicks? (In case you’re wondering, the other is Weirdsville). Anna Faris of Scary Movie fame plays a young actress that must cope with extreme intoxication after accidentally eating her roommate’s pot brownies. As you can probably guess, hilarity ensues. Danny Masterson also appears completely in his element in a film about pot. Ever hear of branching out, Hyde? -R.T.

    ANGEL
    Saturday, September 15 - 12:45 PM
    Director: Francois Ozon

It's hard to write when you have wings. On the plus side, a halo - provided it glows - helps to make nocturnal writing easier. The titular Angel (Romola Garai) in Francois Ozon's (8 Women) first English-language film doesn't have a problem with writing while winged. However, she does have a problem with verbosity, fancy, and love. That in mind, I'll keep this succinct and mostly loveless. Michael Fassbender, Sam Neill, and Charlotte Rampling provide support; I love Rampling and Neill ain't half bad. Garai is fittingly angelic. -S.T.
