Although The Music Hall (aka the Danforth Music Hall) currently enjoys its status as the go-to live music venue for upper-echelon indie bands (often Broken Social Scene and their 1,232 constituent musical acts), the theatre got its start as Allen's Theatre, one of the top early film cinemas in Toronto. Tonight, as a celebration of the iconic theatre, the Riverdale Historical Society and Heritage Toronto will honour The Music Hall with a gala event and a special showing of the rare silent film Dollars and Sense (from 1919, the year the theatre opened) with live piano accompaniment. It's worth checking out; the tickets are one single dollar each. Celebrating 90 Years of The Music Hall takes place Tuesday, August 18 at The Music Hall.
