Sleepless Night Miami :: Sat. Nov. 3
Reasons for a sleepless night: your neighbors have epic, loud sex; you live near the airport or the train tracks (you should consider moving); you're stressed about an upcoming competition (beauty, or otherwise); your bedmate is a snorer/kicker; your dog keeps licking your feet (that's weird); there's a ghost and/or monster in your house; you're a coke head; or you're a run of the mill insomniac. Reason for Sleepless Night: art

On Saturday November 3rd Miami will hold a dusk-until-dawn celebration replete with paint splatters, performance artists, gyration, bands, ballet, camera offspring, and other things produced by people with oft-dirty hands. Modeled on Paris's uber-successful Nuit Blanche, Sleepless Night will see the city's galleries, museums, parks, and any other conceivable venues throw open their doors to the public; of course, don't eat unwrapped candy.

Attractions include, an exhibit by the UK's inflatable media masterminds, Architects of Air; Fred Stern's water rainbow, Getting to the End of the Rainbow; all night swimming and tunes at the Normandy Park Pool (don't eat beforehand); "Aurora’s Wedding," performed by the Miami City Ballet School; a film fest on Espanola Way; Spiegelstage's latest variety show, Absinthe; and many, many, many, many others (see Sleepless Night).

To lubricate the proceedings, the city will provide free transportation between Collins Park, Lincoln Road, North Beach, and Ocean Drive. Get a new pair of kicks, open your mind, stock up on Red Bull, and prepare for an entirely free sensory overload complete with a bonus daylight-saving hour. -S.T.
