Simon Pegg is currently living every geek's dream. The man made the ultimate lover-letter to pop culture geekdom with his television series Spaced (one of the great masterpieces of the small screen. If you haven't seen it yet, you've been wasting your life). Then after achieving cult status he made the world's first zombie romantic comedy Shaun Of The Dead which earned him worldwide fame. Hot Fuzz solidified his reputation and put him on a pedestal so high that not even Run Fatboy Run or a Mission Impossible 3 cameo could knock him down.
There are many ways to enjoy the spoils of well-earned success. Most people respond by developing a drug habit or impregnating a few random ladies. Not Pegg. No, he's decided to capitalize on his success by living out some geek fantasies. First he signed on to play Scotty in JJ Abrams's upcoming Star Trek movie and now he's turning his attention to Star Wars. As his semi-autobiographical TV series Spaced laid out, Pegg was a huge fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, but like so many of us felt betrayed by the shittiness of the prequels. To help set things right, Pegg is now petitioning to write for George Lucas' forthcoming Star Wars TV show, saying "I might try to wheedle my way back into the affections of Lucasfilm and write an episode of the new live action Star Wars TV series" in a recent interview. Dear god let this happen. It's been almost 30 years since there was something good released under the Star Wars banner.
