Sacha Baron Cohen To Star As Sherlock Holmes

Judd Apatow will be producing the project, which normally means he will be heavily involved with the script and also help with jokes on the set. He really requires no introduction having just conquered Hollywood last summer with the massive double success of Knocked Up and Superbad. With his stamp of quality and approval it can be assumed that the project will give audiences more than a few chuckles. There is no director assigned to the project yet, but the smart money is on Jake Kasdan who apart from being an excellent comedy filmmaker also worked with Apatow numerous times before ( Freaks And Geeks, Walk Hard, etc.) and is a lifelong Sherlock Holmes fan.
With the project just announced, it’s currently unclear when this intriguing comedy will be released. Sherlock Holmes is a hot property at the moment, so the movie will probably be rushed into production to avoid the competition (writer/director Guy Ritchie already has a movie that re-invents the detective as an action hero in development). Hopefully this rush won’t hinder the quality of the final project. This is an excellent property with some exceptionally talented people involved, so it would be a shame if the final product was ruined by impossible deadlines. As long as the film turns as good as it should be, the studio can take as long as they want.
