It’s no longer necessary to fork over mountains of money to the Arthur Conan Doyle estate to use the character, so it is officially time for this cash cow to be milked. There are already a variety of Sherlock Holmes pictures set to shoot in Hollywood, but easily the most bizarre project has got to be a comedy rendition of the character staring Borat himself, Sacha Baron Cohan, as Sherlock Holmes (no seriously, this is real).

That’s right, a comedy rendition of the classic character. While Holmes purists are sure to go up in arms about the liberties taken with the classic character, everyone else can rest assured that they’ll be getting a pretty damn hilarious movie very soon. The obsessive and socially inept detective is a great comedy character who has already be milked for laughs before (including Jake Kasdan’s loosely Holmes-inspired and vastly underrated Zero Effect), but never with a comedian as accomplished as Cohen in the title role. And if seeing Ali G take on the big d doesn’t excite you, then you might be a little more pleased with the other major casting announcement: Will Ferrell will play Holmes’ beloved sidekick Dr. Watson.
