Prego Della Piazza is well past geriatric; though, unlike an ass dragging, blind canine, it still appears robust. Opened in 1987, the Bloor Street institution has hit rocky times as of late. According to the Star, owner Michael Carlevale intends to declare bankruptcy.
A foodie favourite and celeb (especially in September) bug lamp, its Euro-flavoured, church-lining patio and haute contempo Italian fare have drawn hordes over the years. With the Bloor boom still in full swing, the news of Prego's recent struggles comes as a surprise. Still, the stalwart spot continues to dole out reliable grub and its friendly, inclusive air remains in tact.
No plans to close have been revealed, yet praying to the public square (thank you, trusty e-translator) is in full swing. Now is probably a good time to revisit an old, perhaps neglected favourite. Tangentially (well, not really), when was the last time you took your dog to the park? Get on that. -S.T.
