Seth Rogan’s Green Hornet
When it was announced that Seth Rogen would potentially write and star in a film adaptation of the
Green Hornet most people assumed it was some sort of mass practical joke. How could the chunky stoner star of
Knocked Up possibly play a comic book hero? But, despite the seemingly endless list of reasons why the movie should fail, it seems like it will actually happen. Sony Pictures announced today that they would start actively pursuing a director for the project and begin the early stages of preproduction on the action/comedy. Rogen is currently hard at work on the script with his writing partner Evan Goldberg (who co-wrote
Superbad and the upcoming
Pineapple Express with Seth) and a draft should be completed shortly. While Seth Rogen is undeniably one of the finest comic minds working today, this still seems like an odd fit. Perhaps Rogen will surprise everyone and produce the stoner superhero version of
The Green Hornet that everyone has been waiting for (the one that uses “green” as a double meaning), but it seems like a big risk. Unless Rogen’s commercial success as an actor suddenly nosedives, this movie is happening. So we’ll all find out if the experiment works soon enough. –PB,
