New Movies Announced In Hollywood

Guy Ritchie To Bring Sherlock Holmes Back To The Big Screen
Sherlock Holmes is one of the most famous and important characters in the history of English literature. While his books have already been adapted into countless movies, there hasn’t been a version created for the new millennium…yet. Given that Hollywood is fond of recycling ideas and a recent Bond reboot was so successful, it seemed inevitable that someone would try to bring back the great detective. Well it’s finally happened and the directorial choice is shocking…it’s Guy Ritchie. Though he is most famous for marrying Madonna, Ritchie was once a promising director whose first two movies ( Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch) were exciting early works by a promising filmmaker. Sadly, his career has only gone downhill since then, (he helmed a terrible remake of Swepy Away starring his wife and also attempted an ill-advised metaphysical gangster film in Revolver).
Sherlock Holmes offers such fruitful source material that one would hope that it could be just what Ritchie needs to recapture what made him such an exciting director at the start of his career. The movie is based on a currently unpublished graphic novel by Lionel Wigram that is supposed to reinvent Holmes as more of an action hero. It’s an interesting concept and if it works, the material could be perfect for Ritchie. However, if the comic is silly and Ritchie’s latest movies have been an indication of his downfall, this could be the final nail in the coffin for a brief directorial career.
