Movie Preview: The Love Guru

Now, this entire situation can be written off with the age-old “don’t judge a book by its cover” adage. Ultimately, no one complaining about the movie (myself included) has actually seen it. Perhaps the trailer deliberately showcases the broadest and most familiar comic moments to attract Myers’ fanbase. It would certainly be wonderful if the film turned out to be a pleasantly surprising return to form for a missed comedic voice, but things aren't looking good. Given how long it has been since Mike Myers last assumed the spotlight, it was hoped that he would return with a project that had been carefully written and reinvented the comedian for contemporary audiences. Sadly, it looks as though Myers has simply reverted to his old bag of tricks and there is even a chance that they may not appeal to contemporary audiences. The latest trend in Hollywood comedy has been a move towards more realistic character comedies along the lines of Judd Apatow’s creations and broad slapstick (even when created by superstar Will Ferrell) has been failing. Mike Myers may have simply waited too long to return and has lost his audience. Hopefully he has a secondary comeback plan if The Love Guru fails. –PB, News Extensions | If you enjoyed this article, you should also check out | | Microsoft offer refused by Yahoo!
