    Hotel Georgia Attracts International Celebs
There’s a new high-end condo in town and it’s piquing the interests of some rather exciting clientele. Real Estate agents for the likes of Jennifer Lopez (J-Lo to the kids), Shaquille O’Neal, and the Saudi royal family are starting to look into the space. About 25 agents from Sotheby’s International Realty are expect to fly into the city for an exclusive preview of the private residences opening up at the Hotel Georgia. The famous Vancouver hotel that once hosted such celebrities as Elvis Presley, John Wayne and Bobe Hope is dropping their room numbers down to 200 from 267 to accommodate the new residential space, which is part of a $400 million development in the Geogia/Howe region expected to be finished by 2010.

The bidding for space has begun, with one anonymous Portland businessman shelling out a record $18 million for a 7,400-square-foot unit on the 48th floor…so we’re not exactly talking bargain rates here(in response Jean Claude Van Damme is believed to have listed his 7,500-square-foor suit on the 41st floor of the Shaw Tower for an insane $19.8 million). The high price tags haven’t slowed buyers since sales started on Friday, with over half of the 155 units claimed. Many have gone to many foreign investors with a few Canadians like former Prime Minister Kim Campbell—who dropped $2.5 million for her 2-bedroom space—grabbing residences as well. There are still units available, but with amenities such as a 20,000-square-foot spa, they will sell fast. The site is not exactly reasonably priced for family living, but if your rich enough to have hired someone to read this article for you, then it’s an opportunity that simply can’t be missed.
