he Toronto restaurant and bar industry are like volatile teen relationships- one week, restos are doing fine and seem like a hot, trendy spot. The next week, you walk past only to see boards on the window and remnants of what ‘used to be your playground’ (quoting Madonna). And after you’ve finally accepted the restaurant is gone and it’s all over, a new restaurant comes into your life. You just can’t help but pessimistically wonder how long THIS one will last. Keep an eye out for our list of new, thriving hot spots- and once-hot spots that are no more. It may be easier to read your favorite spot has closed in print- you can cry in the privacy of your own home. The alternative is something to get excited about and forget your painful memories. Currently undergoing renovations, Habitat Lounge will now be called
“Satori,” run by a new owner and new chef. This supper club will be opening November 23rd for all people bored with the same old restos. Hey- everyone agrees that monogamy- I mean monotony- is a terrible rut.
U of T students seem like they may take the “it’s over” news a bit harder than adults. Or, they’ll shrug and move on- we all know you go through as many love interests as possible in university.
Far Coast, which is frequented by U of T students, has gotten sick of students ordering “a small coffee, nothing else please,” and closed on those cheap student’s asses. While it was a hot spot for people of all ages boycotting the Starbucks plague, for secretive reasons, it will be closing. No word whether it was a financial issue or not- they seemed to play it off as the coffee shop only being temporary, anyways. Sure. And that “break” your significant other wants to take is just for now as well. Mmmhmm.
