ou almost can’t help but feel sorry for chef Rob Feenie after such a horrific break-up. After the emotional and bitter split between Canada’s Iron Chef Feenie and Lumiere, you’ll wonder if I’m talking about a lover’s spat- or a restaurant nightmare.
The press is all over this breakup like Brad and Jennifer’s. Rob Feenie essentially has decided to quit his job as executive chef of Lumiere over many irreconcilable differences between himself and the business partners, David and Manjy Sidoo.
One of Feenie’s major gripes is that the menu changes had to be approved through the new business partners. Apparently, this ended up taking a great deal of power away from Feenie, turning the menu into an unrecognizable, un-Feenie disaster.
And the tabloid editors didn’t notice Britney’s underwear was showing, either.

To put another fork in Feenie’s side, Dale MacKay, the former sous chef at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants in NYC and Tokyo, was supposedly hired without Feenie’s consent. Fuel was added to the fire when a full-page ad was published in Vancouver Magazine’s eating and drinking guide, featuring none other than “the new executive chef, Mr. MacKay.” The Sidoo’s claimed that this was an error that wasn’t caught in time. Mmmhmm…I’m so sure. And the tabloid editors didn’t notice Britney’s underwear was showing, either.
It seems that Feenie’s biggest problem was taking on the Sidoo’s as a business partner two years ago when the restaurant’s finances were in question. This lead to unauthorized changes being made, and essentially forcing Feenie out of his own restaurant. This stripping of power is shocking, considering Feenie was the first Canadian chef to win the elusive Iron Chef title. Who wouldn’t want such an incredible and talented chef in their kitchen? The Sidoo’s, for one.
For customers, none of this would be a problem if the food remained just as tasty. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Lumiere, which was known for creativity, is now lacking in aesthetics and final touches. This may not seem like a big deal, but all you Iron Chef America fans know that plating counts for major points in the competition. Clearly, MacKay would be losing this battle- and what do you think Chef Ramsay would have to say? I have a few ideas, but I simply can’t infuse a sentence with enough expletives as beautifully as Chef Ramsay can.
