abor Day weekend is upon us and with it comes freedom that must be cherished and appreciated. This is your last weekend of the summer, so you'd better spend it frivolously. For the next few months you'll be watching all of the nature around you decaying and dying. Don't you want to enjoy the season of life and love while it's still here? Here are a few events to keep you occupied during your precious hours of freedom.
My Morning Jacket (Aug. 29)
Kick off your big weekend in style with a night at the Fillmore featuring one of those indie rock shows you here all the kids talking about these days. This Louisville band combines funk, metal, country, classic rock and other genres into a complex sound that will get the crowd dancing erotically…and hopefully introduce them to new styles of music as well. Expect head-banging tunes with a handful of Dylan covers thrown in for shits and giggles.
Toots And The Maytals (Aug. 31)
How important is this band to the reggae genre? Well, they coined the term "reggae." How about that smartypants? These guys have been creating great music and chilling out audiences all over the U.S. ever since the Harder They Come soundtrack became a cultural phenomenon. That's over 30 years of great reggae. The Culture Room will erupt with applause when the band kicks into "Pressure Drop." And well they should, because that song and this band are friggin' amazing.
