And that, my friends, is the beauty of West Queen West even in its current incarnation; amidst the gloriously gentrified and the painfully original, there still remains a general sense of community and an encouragement of creativity. It's still an area that fosters artistic expression, and Unit might just be one of those local places that genuinely appreciates this. F. S.

8 Reader Reviews | The other reviewers need to get their heads checked. This bar's reputation is overinflated like the people that frequent this place. The bar is way too narrow and small. The seating is non-existent and the people think they're cool cause they're hanging out at a non-mainstream spot for the area. The only problem is those people are quite fake and have very little connection to real life. The only bright spot to the night were the attentive staff and ok music. Do yourself a favour, go to the Gladstone instead or better yet, find another spot besides W Queen W to hang out at. Too many style fakers and very few style makers!

I love UNIT. It's just the sweet hangout I was looking for. Be sure to make a pit stop while you're there. The bathrooms are really swell. Not a swank place but lots of character and I don't mean the kind of "character" that a seedy bar might have. Eclectic and refreshing!

Gorgeous space!!! Just what Queen Street needs. Loved the interior, the vibe and staff were friendly. I think I've found my new local spot! It's very NEW YORK!

This place is what the nieghbourhood needs!!
an extremely inviting atmoshphere, with a complete lack of pretense. NO frou frou here. The Deco was definitely interesting - right down to the vintage chairs, The Barfridge and even the bartop.
The music was great! Drinks were very well priced. We will definitely be heading back.

frank did you even bother to read faye's review? if so why were u expecting a lush lounge? here is a snippet of her article; she makes it quite clear that the decor isn't "lush":
"There isn't anything "expensive" about SYP Lounge. The hand-painted sign that hangs off the door, the dropped ceiling reminsiscent of the dingiest basement, and the mirrored panels that line a relatively small space to "trick the eye" into thinking it's bigger, are of no importance to the crowd that flocks to these parties"
great review faye

Went there on a Saturday night, paid a cover charge to get in to find the people inside looking like the only thing that was keeping them was the amount of money they'd paid to get in and the hope that things would improve. Music was great - that I admit. But, from the martiniboys.com review, i suppose I was expecting lush lounge, but it was very DIY. Will try again.
