onic has been a staple in the club district for many years now. Too long to count on my two hands. This I-just-turned-19 club has an intense security check-point similar to the big metal doorway you walk through at the airport. Inside, you can find the young party goers dancing on the platforms, winding and grinding. This big-kid playground has a lounge area and lots of techno lights to make you go nuts until dawn. –A.C |

Went to Tonic on a Saturday night and it was pathetic! The line-up to get in was confusing. A lot of people standing around. No real organization. Security was really inconsistent. Some people were being patted down while others got barely a glance. Cost was $15 to get in, not the $12 they advertised on their web site. It took forever to check my coat. Apparently, it takes two people to hang up each coat. Finally got inside. There were quite a few people there, but they were all clustered around the bar. When I left just after 11:30, there was absolutely no one on the dance floor. I guess they were all too cool. Or maybe they just didn't want to dance to the shitty house muisc. Tonic advertises a mix of house, hip hop and R&B for Saturday nights, but don't beleive them. It is nothing but house, so unless that's what you're into, don't go there. Also, don't go there if you're expecting to dance, unless you're okay with being the only one on the dance floor. Maybe things picked up after I left, but I doubt it given the lame-ass music and poseur attitudes of the crowd. On the way out, I couldn't find an exit because the door we came in was blocked with people trying to get in. I tried asked a security guy if there was another exit for people leaving the bar and he just ignored me. I managed to find my way out and was relieved to be out of there. Never again. This place is not worth the cover charge. Save your money and go to Joe! At least there you can get in for free or very little and actually dance.

i notice that most of the reviews on here are by an older, more sophisticated clubbing crowd. I'm 19, and tonic is one of my favourite clubs in toronto. the line is never very long, once you get inside you're met by booming sound and a young party crowd (19-24?). I love it because the people are not stuck up, the bartenders are very nice, and the music is very mixed along with the crowd. if you want a night of cheap drinks and pure fun, tonic is the place to go on a thursday or friday night.
