Unlike other eateries in the area, The Queen Mother projects a quiet, dignified elegance, much like the woman it is named after. Diners are quickly transported far away from the many-bagged shoppers and speedy cyclists of Queen Street to a romantic ambiance created by the low lighting and, perhaps, the many portraits of the Queen Mother gazing approvingly out into the dining room.

With an office only two blocks away, I have had many enjoyable lunches at this restaurant. The food consistently good but the service can be spotty. This week, 5 of us took a staff member out for lunch on his birthday. We arrived on time and had placed our order within 10 minutes. After 30 mintues of staring at water glasses and a couple of soft drinks while the tables aronnd us were chowing down, there was still no sign of food. The server said the kitchen was busy (duh, it's lunchtime) and that our food would be out shortly. Since most of us only have an hour for lunch, we regretfully left after a wait of 45 minutes. We won't be back.
