here's a place in Toronto where you can experience the sensation of travelling the globe in the span of a few hours, without the aid of injectable substances or frequent-flyer miles: Pass through the glass portals at Front and Church, where you’ll be greeted by two hollowed bamboo tree trunks. Descend further to a lower level, past dozens of antique mirrors, into the charismatic lair that is The Foundation Room.
On first reflection, the space could seem a venue split between subterranean drinking den and upmarket lounge, your average downtown bar. Delve a little deeper and you’ll uncover a place of raw, impetuous – yet completely irresistible - innocent fun.
A large marble bar, impressive tiger wood flooring and sparkling chandeliers all conspire to form great first impressions. With an aesthetic that borrows from Morocco, the space is decorated with rich colours and ill-defined spaces, each bleeding into the next.
The back area is pleasantly pumped with deep red drapes, puffy furniture, gold-trimmed tables and festive vases, all showcased by massive industrial steel beams (happily freed from sheets of drywall). The mix of gold and dark reds reflects the dominant theme.
On the way to the restrooms - both of which are decorated with black tile and red piping and have an air of a Sheikh’s quarters - you pass a little brick cave that is used to showcase the liquor stock. A true showstopper, really, as the natural brick is a virtual shrine to the bottles within, highlighted by single LED light and a sheet of glass.

17 Reader Reviews | $16 for 2.5 ounces of gin in a warm glass that looks like it was purchased at Kitchen Stuff Plus is sadly, a fitting complement to the (seemingly) plastic tablecloths that have been hung as 'drapes'. You are virtually ignored the whole evening, and then when the place actually has more than 10 people, the amateurish sound system/dj kicks in (complete with skips and stalls in the system - nice touch!) with music that forces you to yell over it to be heard. Someone starts fiddling with the dimmer switch, but can't seem to get it right. Hey, how about marking the dial so you can just turn it once to the right dimness instead of seesawing the lighting up and down?
Yes, the mirrors and the imported furniture are lovely. But that's all this place has going for it.

I went here on a friday with a whole bunch of friends, we gott here around 10 and got great seats, it was just starting to get busy but soon the place was packed, the music was great, everyone started dancing, the drinks were on the pricey side, but the atmosphere was great!

It's a great addition the neighbourhood and a nice twist to the usual Brit pub formula that owns the street. However, I booked an event there last year just after it opened and was sorely disappointed by results. The owner promised me a certain area roped off for 30 plus guests from all over the country. Instead, we were shoehorned into the back on a set of long sofas, not really conducive for talking. While I had been impressed by the food during a previous tasting, the night of the event was a disappointment. It's as if the chef lost interest or was overworked by all of the extra party people crammed into our so-called reserved space.
We made the best of it and everyone had a good time, but we paid up front for corporate gathering that was not exactly delivered as promised. Great atmosphere, great place to drink, but I'd seriously park my group events elsewhere next time.

Went on a thursday night as per the reviews on this site and it was absolutely dead. The decor is amazing, no doubt, but there were about 15 guys in there and I showed up with about 4 of my own, so 20 guys in a small room underground. not a pretty sight. Went on a saturday night as well and although it was pretty busy, there wasn't a very good crowd either.
decor is amazing, so is the music. the clientele aspect, however, needs a lot of help.

Lounge Series Thursdays rock the house at Foundation Room. There was a live percussionist who blew our minds away, and the deejay was playing some serious house. Thank you to Jamil for showing us boys a good old time.

I met up with a few of my girlfriends here last Thursday for some drinks and was pleased to say the least. The ambiance is just oozing with sex appeal, and you almost feel like you are not in Toronto. The owner surprised us with some items from the tapas menu, which was very nice, and tasty too. DJ. Kleen was spinning, which was also a treat to hear.

This place is a great addition to the neighborhood. The ambiance and decor is quite exotic. I haven't had a chance to try the menu, but I will the next time.

This place is beautiful!!! A group of us booked a table here on a Thursday evening, and we were all very pleased. Foundation Room is not your average lounge. The decor is very pleasing to the eyes, and so were the people at the party. I will definitely return! Great vibe, great people, and great music!

A group of us celebrated my birthday here last Thursday, and I was completly blown away. Foundation Room is visually stunning to the eyes, and the service was excellent. One other aspect that caught my eyes, or should I say my ears, was the dj. I haven't heard music this great since the last time I was in New York. I will definitely return!

This place is beautiful! I took some clients here from New York, and they were blown away. Not only is Foundation Room candy to the eyes, but the service was excellent, and that is one thing other establishments in Toronto can work on. I will return.

The design and atmosphere are well executed but I must say it lacks novelty as this formula is beginning to age...and please, all you club owners, please try to be original and stop borrowing concepts and names from successful places around the world (i.e. this 'innovative' concept is a replica of House of Blues' Foundation Rooms in L.A., Vegas, etc. which opened more than 10 years ago...
