The upscale goth interior is worth the walk-through; designed by Wong and McKay, the cavernous area is split into a maze of levels and areas, with wooden beams and turquoise booths lining the walls. An oak bar faces an enormous wine and spirit rack that stretches to the ceiling, and across the entire room.
Scores of smug single-malt types fill the uncomfortable wooden pews. Better to grab a seat on the huge outdoor cobblestone patio that shares space with family members Pure Spirits and 1832 Restaurant. On the band-free nights, a healthy sound system accentuates Boiler House's frat-party patio.
When asked if the bar has a signature drink, the amiable bartender said, "Um, not really, but I can make some cool stuff if ya want." It's really about beer here. Utilizing the neighbourhood resources, Boiler House sticks strictly with Mill Street Brewery varietals on tap; organic lager, hemp lager and sparkling ale.
And Coffee Porter. This is pale ale, but Balzac's coffee beans have been added to the brew for about a day. This adds depth and flavour to the ale, and really, it's better than it sounds. All beer, with a mere hint of coffee. And it comes with a warning from the barkeep; the caffeine and brew pack a serious kick.

7 Reader Reviews | After reading many horrible reviews about the Restuarant, I decided to still go (with seriously low expectations). I was amazed. The service from the wait staff was very good. Really warm and knowledgable. We ordered poutine (which was no longer on the menu) and the kitchen was more than happy to make it for us! Bit was great!! Too bad they took it off the menu. The duck confit with froie gras was perfect, as was the desert selection. We brought our 2 girls (both under 10yrs) and the waiter was more than accomodating.
Not sure why everyone is complaining about this place. I'd definitely go back.

We ordered three appetizers. Scallop tartare was way too salty. Carpaccio was ok, but a bit heavy on the olive oil. "Special of the Day" was a dish that consisted of two fried scallop wontons (wrappers were way too thick) and three boiled/blanched gulf shrimp that were OK, but overall, certainly not worth the price. Service was friendly. I've been there for brunch and it's good, but we were terribly disappointed by the food we ordered at dinner time. Tuna spring rolls on the patio were good but portions are quite small.

we were greeted by a hostess who told us she had " no idea " how long it would be for a table and to wait outside because they were not open for another 10 minutes. we were the first ones there and there was nobody inside or outside the restaurant. no waiting list. no instructions. just told to wait indefinitely. the buffet was fine , and its a nice room but our server gave off the dreaded 'I don't want to serve you' vibe and should consider a career change. at these prices it is reasonable to expect basic etiquette and customer service. we felt we would have gotten better service at a chain. will not recommend.

The ambiance is good and the jazz groups are excellent, but this aspect can never make up for the hostile discriminatory service which its waiters offer.
This establishment seems less interested in hiring people with manners and some trace of customer service, and instead gravitates towards inmature teenager-like 40 year old men.
I asked for a non-alcoholic beverage and got "juice and pop", nicely rolled eyes, and the back view of my waiter as he abruptly turned on his heal, leaving me in mid-sentence. The restaurant was far from full, my waiter far from busy. I asked for the dessert menu 4 times, and the only time I got anything close to it, was on the last occasion "the kitchen is closed".
