I know all the heat is on the Adelaide Street location, but I love this place. If only every pizza joint could have local brews, huge pitchers, and cheap prices! I can't remember how many nights I spent here, but I always woke up happy... somewhere or another.
Oh, and the pizza's great too. Try the mushroom and swiss.

Wow, the pizza here is absolutely great. I don't think I've ever had better pizza.
However, I have to give this place 3 stars instead of 4 because they don't allow changes. Items coming from the kitchen comes the way the chef want it to come out. For shame.

I've noticed that people who complain about Terroni keep going back, only to complain some more. It's borderline pathological. Come on! As someone who used to work for them, I can't tell you how many times I'd been asked, "I know you don't do this but..." And then proceed to give me and the other servers (sometimes managers too) attitude when we say no because it is against the rules or because we simply don't carry it. It's just silly. Don't give the servers a hard time because you don't like the restuarants's policies. When I have a bad restuarant experience, I don't go back. Period. I don't take my anger out at a server making less than minimum wage.
Furthermore, why, why, modify everything? For some reason people feel the need to personalise their dishes. That's your mom's job (if you're lucky, not a restuarant's). Do you go to other ethnic restuarants and tell them how a dish can be improved? I'd love to see the reaction you'd get in a japanese or hungarian restuarant! "Um, can I have ketchup with this?" "no, I'm sorry we serve our food in the traditional manner. But I can offer you...." "This is unbelievable! What do you know anyway? You're wearing rainboots and the cook is jamaican/swedish!"
The dish comes the way it is, and it's delicious, that's why people keep coming back, despite all of these 'complaints' No, your pizza/pasta/salad will not taste better buried under cheese. Really.

I have been to Terroni on Queen twice and loved it both times. I have backpacked through Italy and can say that Terroni offers Authentic Italian. Not once while I was in Italy did bread come with butter or balsamic, always just olive oil.
I can not get over the people who wouldn't leave a tip because they weren't allowed cheese on their pasta; the wait staff didn't come up with those rules and you are punishing them for it.
The menu is big enough that there is something for everyone.

I find it funny when I read these comments that 8 out 10 posts severally criticise this restaurant. If I wanted guidance as to where one is to go for a half decent pizza in the city after reading some of these posts it appears Pizza Hut would be a better option. The last time I checked they opened the first location on Queen over 15 years ago and now they have 4 restaurants in Toronto and 1 in LA. They are always packed and even Apple made reference to them in an iPhone commercial. I guess Steve Jobs doesnât like parmiggiano on his seafood pasta.....

Only consider this restaurant if you want to dine specifically the way "The House" wants you to dine, and don't ask for any changes - they won't accomodate. The portions are very small, expensive, and there are lengthy delays between courses. We were very disappointed

Food is pretty good. Ambiance is nice. Better than the old venue. Waitresses are cute. Prices a bit high, but it's downtown TO so what do you expect?
9. GFM's Review :: September 29, 2009 GFM's Rating: 3 Stars |
I think it is laughable that people's primary concern with Terroni is their inability to douse their food with balsamic and Parmesan cheese. If you are interested in more "American" style Italian food - go somewhere else. I think it is refreshing that Terroni sticks to its guns about traditional Southern Italian food. High quality olive oil, despite what you may have experienced in other "Italian" restaurants, should NOT be mixed with balsamic - it would be tantamount to putting ice cubes in a nice glass of Chassagne Montrachet.

Elie Betito and I had a chance encounter at Teronni which is covered here by www.martiniboys.com quite accurately. i have visited the Los Angeles location and the Queen Street location. Elie Betito has a Italian background notwithstanding he is employed by Canada's largest generic firm Apotex. Enough about Elie Betito of Italian descent, let's talk about pizza at Teronni.
Their pizza is terrific and their manager Remo is the best manager in the City of Toronto; hands down!!
The decor is magnificent of the Old Court House and the antique guns hanging on the walls are a nice touch to "old mediteranean" ways of "catching and eating what you kill".
The pizza sauces are awesome!!
The cappuccino and espresso bar is also fantastic!!

YOU ALL HAVE THE WRONG LOCATION! there are two different terroni's, and NOT A FRANCHISE. the one on queen street west is a COMPLETELY different restaurant, unfortunately with the same name. The one on Adelaide is AMAZING. I have never been so impressed with the food quality, the prices, the service and the atmosphere. make sure your writing about the right one!!

Great idea. Awesome pizza list and promising food menu. Great decor and bar area with the glassware displayed in the back. However, host was the first indicator that service was going to be an issue. Not inviting, basically tried to discourage us from waiting and reluctantly let us go to the bar, then awkwardly seated us at a table 10 minutes later. Weird. Bartender eating his meal was uninterested. Server was decent, although oddly abrasive as well. Will try again, but what, what?

If you're looking for an authentic italian, that overcharges for bland food, has a really bad attitude, and thinks that 'tradition' exceeds what a customer wants - then this is your place.
We asked for balsamic with a salad - NO. On the side? - NO. My girlfiend ordered a pasta with shrimp, she found it a little bland so asked for some Parmesan - NO.
We got the manager over, and he said NO. Then he dumbfounded us by offering to take the dish away, and bring back the menu so we could order a different dish that they could serve Parmesan with...
Unbelievable.
Unacceptable.
We sent our (by now cold) food back and left.
Save yourself the effort.

This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever encountered! DO NOT GO HERE AS YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED! I should have listened to the mixed reviews while doing my research. Not only is the hostess terrible at what she does, she seated us at a table of 8, with TWO OTHER FAMILIES! The food is so-so and most came out cold. I will never advise anyone to go to this restaurant nor will I ever step foot into it ever again. What a disappointment for $60.

Rocco,
you are a restauranteur?? You have an 800% markup and you think Terronis is 2500%??? You are clearly not who you say you are. Restaurants operate on a 30% food cost, although I agree with he fact that some restaurants abuse this and will operate as low as 15% I can't see any restaurant staying in business longer than a week operating at the markups you have suggested. Yes Terroni is a little on the expensive side for what they put out but they have worked long and hard creating a business that not only offers decent chow but also has a great lively environement and atmosphere...and that is equally important as the food.
21. Milton's Review :: June 11, 2009 Milton's Rating: Stars |
I first went to the location near Yonge/Balmoral and really liked it (this was about 8 years ago). We tried to book a lunch reservation near Christmas time (but still early December) for about 10 of us from my office. I booked it 2+ weeks in advance and even called a few days before to confirm the reservation. All seemed fine...until the day of the reservation we showed up and they didn't have us written down! They 'offered' to seat us at several small tables - in different rooms! Very unhelpful hostess/manager and full of attitude.
We then decided to try the location at Queen instead. And were very pleased with the service we got there.
I think this place is hit and miss as far as food and staff goes, at all the locations.
I'm booking a lunch meeting there for today for the partner of our firm and *hopefully* they don't LOSE his reservation between now and noon today!

Peter Jenkins ("how long is this going to go on for...?"), it's going to go on for as long as it takes the attitude to wean off. Seriously... "no substitutions..." "extra charges for toppings," - these two pizza places are reaping in their popularity for now. But wait a few months when the line ups wear down, and you'll see an entirely different attitude. Pizza Libretto and Terroni - this is your doing.

Would not recommend this restaurant. Overly priced, bad service, and uncomfortable. Just another one of these restaurants that charge ridiculous amounts for sub par food. Get the customer in, feed them the cheapest food we can buy, charge the most we can and laugh all the way to the bank when customers return. I personally will not go back even for a free meal!

Rocco,
I would like know where and how restaurants make 800% markup.
I love Terroni, If you dont like it take your money somewhere else.
but your numbers are completely wrong. If you can make a pizza like theirs and with labour, food cost and over head, and it only costs you $1. You should open a restaurant ASAP your are going to be very wealthy man and I will invest. Please let me know right away.
25. Charles T's Review :: April 28, 2009 Charles T's Rating: 4 Stars |
Never going back! The most idiotic place, with the most idiotic staff (reflecting owners), with the tasteless food marked up 2500% (normal markup 800%). If anyone decides to visit remember:
A pizza doesn't cost them more than $1, while normally priced at $16 for you, "they" should give you at least $5 worth (yes, I'm a restauranteur), for the price "they" charge.
4 Pastas cost "them" $1.99 sauce-less. Sauce-full $2.50. Per person = $0.63.
I'm sure staying true to tradition is important at Terroni's. However, not so much when it comes to hiring Sri Lankans to cook the food (that my 5 yr old daughter would do better).
Go to Terroni's, to find out for yourself :)

"Tradition, Tradition, Tradition"
You'll hear an ear full at Terroni.
But what they don't tell you is that the ONLY Napoletan tradition is:
ROBBING.
TERRONI does a great job at it!
(ask yourself the question: WHY everytime you call the waiter for more olive oil, balsamic, bread, thicker than paper crust... basically, your money's worth, you hear "No, it's tradition")

Overall, I do like the food here. Unfortunately, it can be hit and miss. Some of the dishes, I totally agree with some others, there just isn't enough sauce, it's too oily, or they don't give u extra cheese (sorry if that offends but I like freshly grated cheese on my pastas!). The pizzas seem pretty reliable. I have a better time at the Queen West location. I love the chile peppers! Delicious!

Do they still refuse to prepare the food you want? (meaning, no substitutions, no cheese - nothing that the chef doesn't feel "is right for the dish")? Crazy ass place.

I just came back from eating dinner at Terroni's (Queen st. location) and was sorely disappointed just as most people were. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and my boyfriend ordered a panini. His order was essentially a lunch sandwhich. Cold, plain and of course, without cheese. I was shocked when they delievered what was supposed to be my full entree. There had to be no more than ten tiny and very thin ravioli pieces that were completely dry. The menu had specifically said that it came with a sauce. Our waitress was fairly friendly and helpful and offered it to be re-made and admitted that it was a lot drier that usual. My new ravioli dish was then covered with a "sauce" that was basically just oil. Incidents like this happen at restaurants all the time but I believe that it is how the establishment chooses to deal with it that shows their true colours. Even though my dish was neither acceptable to me, my boyfriend or the waitress and I had to eat alone as my boyfriend was done eating when my new dish arrived, I still had to pay full price for everything which I think is ridiculous. We paid $50 to go home and make ourselves a real dinner.

Weird that someone would stop eating here based on one comment, especially when they go all the time-makes no sense. I actaully don't work there, I just happen to live in the neighborhood and frequent the restaurant alot.
I agree, the servers do have attitude that is quite unecessary. However to assume that all these young "hipsters" careers are nothing but indie bands is just in fact rude and ignorant, I think its actually called stereotyping. Like really, does it matter that they wear rainboots? I find that if you go with the flow here and just order (ie dont ask for substitutions), you should have no problems. They may not be the friendliest, but I find the food worth it.
33. Tess's Review :: March 18, 2009 Tess's Rating: Stars |
Terroni is a unique slice of Italy/Toronto. Why all the complaints? There are valid reasons for not mixing cheese and seafood - beginning with the taste buds. I've eaten my way happily through most of the pizza choices on the menu and have savoured them for their composition - as is. Crusts are the best and the thinnest I've eaten in Toronto. The quality of the ingredients is excellent - your tongue is the witness. We've been going to Terroni since it opened on Queen W - again and again and again. I love it that the kitchen stays open late and have always found the wait staff to be great. I miss the wonky chandeliers from the original Terroni - that's my only quibble. We've been to every Terroni in Toronto several times. The Queen W location is our fav. The drive from the east end is well worth the time spent.

I have to agree with most of the comments below. I don't mind the restrictions on the food so much as the condescending attitude I get from the pre-pubescent wait staff. While I enjoy popping in for a quick bite now and again (never for a special occasion - trust me!) the service (at least at the Queen Street location) is truly deplorable. Rude, unprofessional and sloppy. Customers should not be lectured to by hipsters wearing rain boots and headbands and whose "real" job is obviously in some sort of indie band.

Zowie. Tess, since you obviously work at Terroni, I'm glad you didn't put a 4 star rating on here. You have, however, stopped me from ever visiting this restaurant. I've been to Terroni on Queen a number of times. You've just stopped me from ever going to any Terroni again.
36. Shelley's Review :: March 18, 2009 Shelley's Rating: Stars |
Seems that torontonians are becoming more demanding and arrogant, particularly when it comes to dining out. Maybe next time you go to terroni's, go with an open mind and actually just relax and enjoy a real coke and cheese on your pizza-its not going to kill you. I think when you use good quality ingredients in any cuisine, not much else is needed. Of course if your dipping your bread in crap olive oil your going to want balsamic to balance it out too-but this is not the case here.
And for anyone that has been to italy, I think it is quite apparent that not all italians do things the same and will actually fight you to your grave when it comes to food. So yes, they may have served you balsamic on your buffalo mozzarella salad, but that is not the tradition in this italian family and they will be just as stubborn as every other italian to preserve that tradition, and rightly so.
So maybe try stepping out of your limited food senses and go with the flow here. If you still want to add cheese to your seafood pasta try the old spaghetti factory, it may be more suiting to your needs.
37. Tess's Review :: March 17, 2009 Tess's Rating: Stars |
My wife and I live in Toronto, and have dined at Terroni a number of times over the years. Today is the last time we will visit any of their restaurants. While the food is good, fresh, and genuine, Terroni has, on multiple occasions, worked really hard at trying our patience.
The first time, as our waitress had poured the obligatory olive oil to dip our bread, my wife politely asked if she could have a drop of balsamic vinegar. The waitress staunchly refused, and when asked the reason, began lecturing us on the purity of the Terroni brand, and how mixing balsamic vinegar with oil didnât represent the true expression of Italian culinary tradition â not only was she forbidden from serving us vinegar, but how plebeian of us to ask.
Stunned by the reaction, my wife decided to bypass the neurotic waitress and ask the kitchen for a little balsamic. As she approached the counter, she was deftly intercepted by said vigilant waitress who, nearly in tears, sternly reminded us that vinegar was âverbotenâ. First evening ruined.
The second time, we visited a Terroni restaurant that had just opened on Adelaide Street. Once seated, we were asked for our drinks order. Our friend ordered a diet Coke, to which the waitress replied that âour owners does not believe in diet colasâ. Stunned by such direct, scolding reply, she chose a regular Coke, which thankfully appeared to be an acceptable choice. Second evening ruined.
Finally today, for the third and last time, we visited Terroniâs Queen Street restaurant with friends from the United States. I was sensitized by our past experiences, but was willing to give the place one last try, even though it was not my first choice. I did warn my wife to kindly avoid questioning in the slightest any and all food modifications â no matter how slight â fearing reprisal.
Unfortunately, as the waitress was taking our orders, one of our blissfully unaware friends fell into the diabolic trap and dared âIâd love your Nizzarda salad, but would it be possible to please hold the anchovies?ââ¦. well, that was simply too much of an affront to the legendary purity of the Terroni tradition: the waitress, on cue, began lecturing us on the impeccable quality of their food and ingredients, and the historic tradition behind them that made it so very unthinkable to substitute or modify any and all dishes â all of Italy and civilization itself had been insulted by a request to hold an anchovy. She concluded the sermon by admonishing that Terroni âwas all about being true to their foodâ.
The tone was sanctimonious, arrogant, and unbelievably presumptuous. Toronto is still a little childishly full of itself, as in New Yorkâs poorer cousin trying hard not to be ignored. Some of its restaurants reflect that, with Terroni at the head of the pack. I informed the waitress that perhaps they should think of staying true to their customers from time to time. It so happens that I was born and raised in Italy, but never found a restaurant there or anywhere that took itself quite so seriously, and made a point of lecturing its customers quite so sanctimoniously. You can remain true to your tradition and still be kind to your customers â we did not ask for ketchup on our spaghetti. Dogmas do not belong in the kitchen.
If you value Italian food and customer service, and would rather avoid a sermon delivered by a clueless 25-year-old on the fine culinary traditions of their founders, go to Trio Ristorante and Pizzeria: youâll spend less, get better service, and taste the best authentic pizza this side of the Atlantic.

Well, after reading all the other reviews on this site we still decided to give it a go, I mean, how bad could it be. It really was that bad. I, like so many others before me, asked for grated cheese on my pasta. I was told that it is against their rules to put grated cheese on pasta that has seafood in it as it will ruin the flavour. I asked the waitress if she knew that it was against my rules to pay for pasta that has no grated cheese on it. She did not seem to have much of a sense of humour. If I want to pour pepsi on my pasta, that is my choice. Their prices are far too high for what they are serving. I will never go back there again.

Wow, could it be, Toronto diners are starting to wise up. Just because a place is popular doesn`t mean it`s good. I was laughing at the pizza-parmasean story. I thought my husband had written it, but I guess quite a few others have experienced the Parmasean Police. What arrogance, what rediculousness and yet they are still in business. By the way, their food is manga-cake at best.

I had a terrible time at Terroni and will never go back.
My pizza was bland so I asked for some Parmesan cheese to help give it some flavour. To my surprise, the waitress told me no, I'm not "allowed" to have Parmesan on my (bland and flavourless) pizza. The chef apparently wants to ensure customers enjoy their pizza in the traditional Southern Italian way, and therefore with no Parmesan cheese. A person in our party asked if she was "allowed" to have Parmesan on her pasta and she was granted permission. She asked for the Parmesan on a side plate (so she could illegally share her controversial Parmesan with me) and was told no, the waitress can only place the Parmesan directly on the pasta to ensure nobody goes and uses that Parmesan on an item where it's not permitted.
I'm not making this up.
If the chef would like to recommend how to best enjoy his or her food, that's totally acceptable and appreciated. But to be so insecure about their menu that they actually create rules that impede the enjoyment of their customers -- is totally ridiculous.
People choose to go out to dinner to have a good time, not to be "educated" by a condescending and insecure chef. I've been to a lot better restaurants and enjoyed the food of very accomplished chefs, and certainly would never recommend returning to be taught any more lessons on food from a chef at a $15 pizza joint.

A lovely space and beautiful presentation. However, the dishes are conceptually weak and tend to lack flavour, creativity and ultimately any reason to return. The prices are exhorbitant and the pizzas are mediocre (not to mention very, very small). Most dishes overemphasize oil and salt, and cheese is involved in most courses. Worst of all, the flavor profiles in each course tend to remain the same rather than build or play off of each other. When the predominant flavors are salt and oil, it is not a good thing.
47. Daria Nagin's Review :: November 20, 2008 Daria Nagin's Rating: 2 Stars |
What I love about terroni is how true they stay to the traditional style of Italian food. They serve the food as if you are a guest in someone's home in a small countryside in Italy. Imagine asking for more balsamic or parmesan when you are a guest at someone's home! But also needless to say, each dish is a family recipe and is specially formulated to apply to each pallette. The problem with substitutions and modifications is sometimes those substitutions will ruin the flavours that are meant for the dish, and when this occurs, the customer automatically claims that the restaurant is not good. A customer would NEVER blame their own decision to modify the food. Having said that, I wasn't always on Terroni's side. In fact, I was just as angry at first, but having thought it through i think if that is how they want to run their business then so be it! All their ingredients are of the highest grade available. From the Vita Eggs that they use all the way down to the meats that are butchered themselves or bought from local butchers. Their cheeses are of highest quality and they make the pasta fresh straight from their basement daily. The seafood they serve is always fresh, not frozen.
Don't you want that kind of quality in all the food you eat?
48. Yummyum's Review :: September 17, 2008 Yummyum's Rating: 4 Stars |
Stay away!! A new definition of arrogant service, mediocre food and too high prices. Don't like olive oil with your bread? Too bad--they will not give you butter nor will they give you balsamic for dipping, despite having bottles of it in the kitchen......Order salad Caprese, and for 14 bucks you get five tiny but tasty buffalo milk bocconcini balls, four small and thin slices of tomato, one basil leaf and a few shards of shredded basil, all on a bed of limpid greens. Ask for some balsamic or vinaigrette for the greens?--NO!! You can't have any because the taste mavens at Terroni have decided that "authentic" salad Caprese is served that way.
Take a trip to Capri, fellas!! They seem to think over there that the salad they invented should have thick slabs of buffalo mozzarella, thick slices of fresh tomato and loads of basil, usually with some evoo, fresh ground pepper and balsamico. But what do they know anyways??
Carpaccio is tender thin slices of over-lemoned beef with a paucity of shaved parmagianno in the center. Calamari are tender and relatively tasteless. I shuddered as I asked for some salt, and to my amazement they actually brought me some.
Two apps each, one small glass of house red and the bill was a few pennies under 75 bucks for two people before tip.
The fact that this room is full is a testament to the lack of sophistication of Toronto diners, or a misguided sense that abuse can masquerade as good taste. You want to learn about "authentic" Italian food? You won't find it here. Go to a neighborhood mom and pop Italian eatery where the proprietors actually understand that you should give customers what they want, not charge for how you think they should eat. There is no room for that kind of arrogance, and the sooner Terroni on Adelaide changes owners and practices, the better off Toronto diners will be.
My rating? Half a star, because it's a nice room!

I just tried Terroni's for the first time, after hearing great things about the food. We asked 3 waiters for fresh grated parmesan cheese for our pizza (which was supposed to have parmesan on it already, however we could not see any), and each time, were told that we could not have cheese for our pizza, as the dishes are all served in a very particular way. We eventually complained to the manager, who agreed with us that they are losing customers over this "policy", however did not wish to resolve the situation. He mentioned that Terroni's stopped leaving the cheese graters on the table 2-3 months ago, because people were using it on their pizza! We explained to him that denying a customer parmesan cheese is like denying them salt and pepper, and he stated that "no fine dining establishment provides salt and pepper". His comment is certainly lacking validity, as I have yet to be refused salt and pepper in any kind of restaurant! And after today's experience, I can't understand why he thinks Terroni is a "fine dining restaurant". His only attempt at rectifying the situation was offering us a "seafood dish" instead. At this point, I am still unsure what that would have solved, as we went to Terroni specifically for pizza!
I should have left the pizza and walked out, however I ate it anyway, and paid for it, however for the first time ever, I left exact change with absolutely NO tip!
There are many other wonderful restaurants in Toronto that actually appreciate and try to please their paying customers - Terroni is NOT one of them! Do yourself a favour and spend your time and money elsewhere!

Yes the food is good here, but this is a case of when poor customer service really deters you from visiting. I think Terroni's popularity has gone to its head because they certainly don't care for their customers. I visited there with a friend, and they practically rushed us out of there, grabbing our food and drinks before we were finished.
Judging from some of the other experiences, I am not alone on this. Interesting that on their website, Terroni does not have a customer service or feedback section.
Do not visit Terroni.

Food is generally ok, but the place is way too noisy for carrying any semblance of a conversation. Service is hit and miss: some waiters/waitresses are on the ball, but others are duds that don't bother bringing the wine until after the food arrives (happened twice already!).

I ordered the veal special and was not happy with the side dish. I made a request to have something instead and was told "we don't do that". When I complained to the manager, I was told that is our policy. As it turns out the manager was the owner.
Very poor customer service!!!
I will not go back!

Crowded, loud... and worth the trip. They need to cut the pizzas for us though.

Oh, how I wish I could love terroni. I had such high hopes after reading all the rave reviews from my fellow martiniboys people, but I was incredibly disappointed. Food... rushed service... and the loud room, our evening was par-average.

Two co-workers made me come here for lunch yesterday. Woah. Goodbye Lettieri, I am now a Terroni girl! What a great space...makes my head spin...and as soon as I can have bread agai. I am so hitting up their pasta selection (some great, some not so much). And they have big salad selection. Sold, sold, sold! The party music is a bit much, but...you need to shake that sandwich through you afterwards anyway.

Fair warning. It's way too easy to overindulge. I will shamelessly order too much and/or drink too much. Tonight both happened until it hurt. Thankfully, my stomach has its limits. Something about the place turns me into a weak, undisciplined wreck. Nice place though.

I enjoyed Terroni on Queen St. West and on Balmoral so much that I took my parents to the Adelaide location on January 24, 2008 only to be disappointed about an experience I had been hyping up for a couple weeks.
We waited for about 50 minutes for a table in the front area where people were eating or seducing their partners at the bar. We felt tossed around like kernels in a popcorn bag until a small niche of space opened up where we would only be in the way of the staff who were not rude to us.
Very uncomfortable waiting area, we couldn't even make our way to the bar to help us numb the pain and loosen up the suffocating experience.
Finally, we were told our table was ready and were guided to the only high bench in the dining area only a foot and a half away from where orders are entered into the computer. They would not give us a better table because there was only three of us and not four (we watched the group of four as they were escorted to the comfortable and private booth). Reluctantly, we sat at the bench (which are cool at the Queen location when you're not with your parents).
We ordered two glasses of wine (not the three ounce glasses!), some bread and a three pasta dishes. Our server did not smile once, although she did confirm that cheese is mixed in to every sauce (Lactose intolerant issue) except the basic tomato and spaghetti dish, and they would not change anything. Fair enough, I'm not new to dining out or cooking, but the other locations did it for me and the food was great!
Again, our grumpy server came by with our pasta, bluntly asked us we "needed" cheese or pepper. The food was good, but not exactly satisfying. Dessert was apparently to die for - my parents ordered the flourless chocolate cake and devoured it. My espresso was room temperature to cold, and it would have tasted better if it was hot.
Our bill came, and overall, we walk out of Swiss Chalet on a Sunday evening with my grandfather more satisfied than we did from the uncomfortable seats, poor customer service and decent, but not exceptional food. $106.00 vs. $50 at Swiss Chalet...needless to say, our grumpy server was tipped as much as she served us.
I'll never go back to the Adelaide location, but will definitely go back to Queen and Balmoral.

It's nice to see conversions in the city, I enjoyed the atmosphere and my dinner, however, what made the night really poor was the water issue at the end of the night. Teronni reues the water bottles, without washing the outside or the inside of the bottles. First of all, they refill unused water bottles from customers without cleaning the bottles. This was done in the middle of the restaurant, by the communal table. If someone went to the washroom and forgot to wash their hands, if someone has a cold or a virus, if anything is airborne and falls into the water, including food - what is wrong with this picture already. Also, the lids mostly sits on the table - which is not clean. If you think of wine or bread - in no way would I like to receive any of these from a bottle or basket that someone else drank or ate out of. When I brought it to our waitress attention, she said in a sarcastic voice - no one drinks from the bottle - I went on to say - how do you know this - her reaction was - well I don't and here is your bill. Pretty much - get out. I was going to let it go, but for health issues, I won't. I am speaking to a manager today and hope to resolve this, but it wasn't a one time thing - other staff was doing the same thing as I was leaving. All I have to say is don't drink the water!!!!! I am discusted with this.
