Among the non-sushi dishes, the Shrimp and Veg Tempura is actually quite good. Although a little fatty, it is flavourful and tender. The stir-fried vegetable Yasai Itame is also taste-filled, but the grilled chicken teriyaki ($8) is over-sauced and overcooked.

The restaurant also serves a fine Udon/Soba menu in the long, narrow dining room whose high windows and open front lend a sense of style (and, during the day, plenty of sunlight). Table service is quick and easy and the staff is happy to explain the mysteries of raw fish to novice diners. With a flavourful menu, tight spins and quick table service, Sushi D can convert even the staunchest anti-seaweed diner into a raw and roll lover. - B.J.

AYCE, is a sham, from D's opening its been a wishful experience back to D's opening days. The chefs are now slicing the sushi so thin its difficult to taste. Fish also tastes a bit off; be careful.

Found the place by fluke, was actually looking for good old
fashion italian food on College street, but pass by this place
and was pleasantly surprised. Seating is a tad bit cramp, but comfy.
Staff was pleasant enough, answering our naive questions about sushi and their exotic ingredients. But the best part was the bountiful selection of various asian cuisine, everything from sushi to udon noodles to teriyaki. The cost worth it since we opted for the all you can eat, and boy we ate all we could! Can't wait to go back...

If you're going here to get the 'all you can eat', be prepared to repeat your orders to the incompetent waiters about three times before you get them, and when you do the quality of the food doesn't seem to matter anymore because you're so hungry from waiting, you'll want to eat anything. On top of the shitty service they also gave us our bill without asking for it first. So if you really don't mind getting cut-eye and negative attitude from your waiter, and feeling guilty for making a second order, you'll love this place.

Just a response to comment below..

most japanese resturaunts have your initial orders limited because
they don't want you to paying extra for the left overs which effects the wait staff's tips...

btw this is one of top 5 places to dine in Toronto.

    Great value and refreshing menu..

First off, i'm a tough critic but i've been going to several sushi restaurant for years, both a la carte and AYCE (all you can eat)

Sushi D is the one i go to most often now.

    Pros:
-rolls arent overly stuff with rice
-portions are small for trying so its good if you have 2 ppl. if you have more ppl just ask for more servings
-relatively good atmosphere. clean for the most part, dim lighting and isnt overly loud. I know noise is tough to control as its usually the customers who make the noise but the lower lightening probably helps
    -decent variety

    Cons:
    -service isnt always great
-the lack of paper ordering. personally i like to write down or use a check box method. its easier to order with a lot of people
-biggest con of all. half way through my order i will get stopped by 9/10 waitress' "thats enough?" what do i say to that? if i say yes, i dont get all i wanted, if i say no they dont bring everything i ask for. i dont know if they're lazy to write down what i want or they're worried i will waste but they charge you for leftovers anyways. I've learned to keep my orders short which works out quite well now but still annoys me at times.

overall its a decent place to mingle & have decent japanese food.

    Must tries
-treasure island (tuna, salmon, white tuna sashimi bits over avocado slices with a house dressing)

Great, polite service. Tasty rolls with a sloppy presentation (rice clumps in places, naked seaweed in others). Seaweed salad is too small for the price. Seems like a great place to grab some quick dinner if you're shopping/working in the College Street area, but definitely not a spectacular dining experience.

I thought I'd try this place out. The service was absolutely terrible and the waitress had a frown as if she didn't want to be there. Very rude service. Food was not bad..but not the best..not as fresh as other places. Not worth the 19.99 for all you can eat. Bad service.

I've read mixed reviews about this place and have been curious for quite some time. So last Saturday evening, seeing as how Sushi Island had a 30 minute wait, my friend Kim brought up the fact that sushi D was just down the street. The place looks great with low ambient lighting and trendy French music. It was packed but we managed to get a table in no time at all. The service was fast and our waiter suggested many tasty delights. One tip for all your sushi and sashimi lovers, get the all you can eat!! Our bill should of came close to double of what we actually paid. Plus the food was amazing and OMG did it come fast. with'in 10 minutes of ordering our table was half filled with tapas sized dishes.
No where in Toronto have I tried anything like there “rock shrimps”. I think with all restaurants they have there on days and off days...but for sushi D that night I got to say I was definitely impressed and I strongly recommend any skeptics out there to give it a chance.

I was a regular there before, but I stopped going there since I was told Sushi D isn't so clean as it seems by my friends. I noticed the servers there changes quite often. However, I have to agree the service is poor. Anyway, I am not going there no more.

We have been there on previous occasions, and have found the service to vary from poor to indifferent attitudes from the staff. On today's occasion, we called ahead to verify that they were open at 12:00 for lunch service. Upon arriving at 12:15, the staff informed us without a hint of apology that they were not ready to serve for another half hour as they were still cleaning the floors. Although the sushi is of excellent quality, the subpar and lax service does not warrant regular patronage of this restaurant.

I work at sushi D on the weekends and just want to clear up that they do not re-use the wasabi, there is no need for it practically costs nothing, just to put in perspective, a package of powder can last up to 2 weeks and only costs the restaurant 8 Dollars, they spend more on candles. Most sushi places don't do this as it's pointless, sort of like reusing disposable chopsticks.

The person below was a previous employee whom was dismissed for eating customers' food before serving and was warned on multiple occasions. I personally love the food there, and I treat all my customers with the best service and attention.

Im not the biggest fan of Japanese cuisine, but to my pleasant surprise the food at sushi d was amazing some of the uncooked plates such as sashimi was rather tempting to eat at sushi d as well as great tasting. The Sushi D roll was out of this world, I have never tasted anything quite like it. after a nice sit down it came for dessert and had the tempura ice cream, OMG IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! WELL DONE SUSHI D

    You gotta try
    - Sushi D roll
    - Jade Roll
    - Rock shrimp

    - Tempura Ice Cream
