pon one’s first visit to Klink, it is difficult not to be overwhelmed by the antiseptic décor, designed by the facility’s own design team and the bartenders in tiny nurses outfits.
Klinik takes up the basement portion of Turbo located in the heart of clubland. Club folk enter the facility from a back alley entranceway, accessed from alleyways from either Richmond or Adelaide Streets, leading to a lower-level, eye-catching room. The extensive use of white, spotted with bright lime green provides an ultra-clinic look throughout the entire range. The lighting and sound system could use some tweaking. But someone surely had fun in the creation of the cold, yet strangely inviting atmosphere throughout the room.
Klinik’s thoroughly sanitized décor throughout offers a potentially fun club vibe. Taking cues from some of Toronto’s other venues, the interior is appropriately lit and never too bright or dark, allowing one to choose whether to melt into one of the corner sub-rooms, complete with beds, sheets and pillows, or be the spectacle of the room. Neon-green-rimmed seating arrangements and beds act as semi private hospital rooms.
As for music, Klinik features UV on Thursdays, spinning trance and hip-hop heavy sets. Saturday offers up a terrific mix of soulful house music, classic dance tracks, and a nice one or two hour set of hip-hop favorites. Those who choose to arrive early may even get treated to some music gems that one might never expect to hear in trendy clubs, as guest DJs drop driving beats from the moment they begin. The music begins subtly, with a deep tribal flair, progressing into a climax of new and classic tracks that keep the crowd going.
