malltalk is a restaurant and bakery. The selection varies every day, and may or may not include Oatmeal and millet, Sesame bread, Cheddar cheese, Peasant wheat, etc. The loaves are pretty big, but Smalltalk will sell you half a loaf if you ask for it. Smalltalk's croissants are small, but authentically French in taste and texture.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The food was excellent -- seasoned to perfection and with subtle flavours that blended so well in innovative combinations. On top of the food being superb, the staff was great - our server was friendly and funny and polite and she did her job really well, helping with suggestions and opinions. The atmosphere is nice: the music was good and the seats were comfortable -- what more could you ask for? We didn't wait long, despite the constant stream of dinner guests (this place is pretty popular with the Leaside crowd)and we would definitely go back -- the food was too good to pass up (can't wait to try the grouper!)and we'll be telling all of our friends to check it out too.

This was one of the WORST experiences at a restaurant! We were looking for a nice restaurant close to our wedding ceremony venue to invite our wedding party for a rehearsal dinner. After reading some reviews, and even driving by to look at the restaurants in the neighbourhood, we decided Smalltalk was going to be a good choice. WE WERE TERRIBLY WRONG.
It started off really nice, a very kind email of the menu, and pleasant phone manners. On the day, we waited over 2 HOURS for our food!
There were a handful of tables in there (the restaurant was half empty). I was told that because we ordered after the other table (who also waited over an hour and a half for their food), our order took longer. So technically our order only took 1.5 hours to get to us. Other tables were noticeably agitated as well. They only had 2 chefs on staff because their logic was that the restaurant was not full on a Tuesday night, eventhough they knew over a month in advance that we were a table of 16.
My father was so hungry and grumpy I felt horrible and embarrassed. I had to ask our waiter for an explanation and asked if I would get an apology at least. She said it is USUAL TO WAIT 45 MINUTES to an HOUR for food. She finally did apologize, which I appreciated. When the food came, the display was nice but the food DID NOT TASTE GREAT. Ex. my angel hair pasta was cold and the shrimp overcooked, and the sauce too watery. At least the salt in it gave it some good taste. We all agreed the food was NOT WORTH THE WAIT.
Our entire wedding party was incredibly disappointed, we will NEVER go there again, and we will expressly tell anyone not to bother with Smalltalk.
