With the concentration of Vietnamese noodle houses and Dim Sum restaurants, Simon Sushi sticks out as the only Japanese restaurant on the Spadina strip. You can find some of the traditional and not so traditional sushi rolls, udons and appetizers.

7 Reader Reviews | This little sushi place is really a LITTLE sushi place.
Nara sushi has a few creative rolls, but for the rest of the menu, don't expect anything exotic or crazy. They have the usual sashimi, donburi, nigiri, so if that's what you're looking for, that's what they've got. Their prices are resonable, just don't expect 5-star Japanese food.

The sushi was average at best. I ordered two rolls to go (their menu is terrible). They were very small and didn't taste fresh at all. You can probably find better.

Great place for decent cheap sushi in-house, but agree delivery is a bit off. Atmosphere for couples and small groups of 4 or 6 if they squish tables together. For the price though the sushi is good and a quiet place to chat.

Tried this place for delivery. The delivery guy was super disorganized, didnt even have a pen or the right forms to sign off on it. Took about an hour to arrive. Now, about the food: I started with the Nasudengaku, Baked eggplant with miso sauce (3.45), the 2 small pieces I got were little dry but the miso sauce was quite tasty, so more would have made it better. Seaweed salad (4.45) wasnt drenched in oil like a lot of places, had a good amount of sesame, and came with good quality tomatoes especially for the season. We also tried a deluxe bento box (9.45). It came with gyoza (beef, very tasty, crispy on the outside, very soft and yummy on the inside), Shrimp and vegetable tempura (standardly good but not crunchy enough), miso soup (nothing special), salad (eh), salmon teriyaki (a fair amount, cooked well, a good cut of fillet with sesame, came with sprout mix and rice), and 3 each of cucumber and salmon maki.
As for the sushi, the fish was fresh and generous, but I could taste a big whiff of rice vinegar which was distracting. Out of the special rolls, I tried two. The suicide roll (3.95, avocado, tempura bits, spicy mayo, cayenne) came recommended by another review but it was disappointing and missing the tempura bits. The U of T roll (4.95, eel, avocado, cream cheese, roe) was very tasty but rice fell apart easily.
Overall it's not a bad place to sample a few types of interesting rolls as they come cheap and small here, but don't expect the best sushi in the city. I would go back but not recommend it as amazing.
