Look to the sea for Sweete's best main-dish work. Thanks to a light butter sauce and a side of Swiss chard, the grilled Atlantic salmon ($16.00) is deliciously simple. Firm textured and bright coloured, the seared filet is wonderful when swiped through a pool of tangy, salty butter sauce.
Pasta is, curiously, a peripheral concern, with Fettuccine Alfredo ($14.00) as the lone entry. This dish isn't exactly breaking new ground, but it makes an excellent dish all by itself, its pliant, homemade noodles needing only the de facto sauce to make it work.
The oven-roasted chicken ($16.00), nicely cooked to show off its tenderness, is great, but sharply at odds with the accompanying sweet-tart baby bok choy. The mashed potatoes and jus are great perks though. Comfort food at its best. The tender, braised lamb shank ($18.00) is also a crowd-pleaser. Served with spaghetti squash, the plump and juicy meat is glazed with a significant quantity of lamb jus. All of its elements play on each other to create a balanced whole.

This place had a great ambiance and fantastic service. We had to wait for our table and our first drinks ended up complimentary of the house....very classy! The food was great and not over salted like many restaurants in that area! We highly recommend Sidecar if you want a really nice night out with friends or loved ones!

I live close to where sidecar opened(College & Bathurst), I noticed there new sign when it went up, bigger and more noticeable. I have been in three times now! I enjoyed the chicken, huge serving, i even think it's on the prix fix, although I forgot to take my doggy bag home.
I liked the steak frites, the small fry was yummy with whatever the sauce was..... I had the steak the third time I was in as well, but this time I kindly asked for a vege....a girl has to watch her figure, the waiter was smiling and sweet when they mentioned it wouldn't be a problem..probably the kitchen hated me but was I ever happy when this gorgeous steak and plate of asparagus is placed in fromt of me. A little too much butter on my asparagus, but I am a fitness buff and this stuff hits me hard!
To the writer whom was so extra ugly.... you are awful! How dare you slander a place like SIDECAR! to tell people to never eat there you are a disgrace to the reviewing public who would like to inform others of their experience. You are a negative ugly person!!!
thanks,
try sidecar, oh and p.s. their cocktails blew me away. small but strong! I wanted to try one of everything.,...soon i will!
I will be back soon!

The prix fixe is the best deal in the city. I eat out twice a week, and have never found such value for the money. The food is simple but executed well, the service is professional, and the patio is wonderful. I'm going to be back!

this was an awful meal. I had their prix fix tuesday night meal and the food was just bad. The appetizer was 'tempura beans', which meant a few string beans in soggy batter tossed on a plate with tasteless dipping sauce (which tasted like a bit of soy watered down), the 'steak frites' was an chewy overcooked piece of beef with greasy limp fries, and their chocolate mousse dessert was just uninspired chocolate pudding served with an ice cream scoop. The service was confused, the welcome was non-existent... I haven't eaten a meal this bad in Toronto for ages... don't eat here... for $22 bucks I don't expect the world, but I expect more than that terrible meal..

The atmosphere felt really quiet, even though there were people there. We felt like we had to speak really quietly. Not their fault, just the way it is I suppose. The only real problem we had was the service: our server was over eager to pour our wine (above and beyond the mark) and take away our wine bottle. We felt like we were being rushed out of there. At one point, we were wondering if they were closing up soon (reason for feeling rushed). They weren't. We were out of there within 40 mins. Didn't even feel like finishing our wine.

Great food, great service, great ambiance... a little unpretentious gem in pretentious area.

Great little hidden gem. Popped by on the weekend, and, although the diners were a little obnoxious, the fare was great. Good drinks too.

It's high time this space was properly utilized. I have been twice now, and, while not the poshest of places, Sidecar pushes out surprisingly good fare.

Great little spot for some good small-plate fare. They also have little patio out front, come summer.
