Just a swagger away from the deeply rooted and over-the-top Rain, Shmooze is a club that, in fact, tried to reinvent the wheel by picking and choosing who gains entry. But, now, it has come back to earth. Shmooze has had its run at this short lived hard-to-get-in-to phase. All you have to do now to get in is just show up.

Catering to the older (25-35) generation of Toronto clubgoers and those who want (or pretend) to be a part of that scene. Dress up, queue up, and descend into the swarm of poseurs.

It may be worth going just to see the place; 1930’s cathedral ceilings, crown molding and a huge open layout creates a good flow, club-wise. Though some areas get congested (it is a bar after all), the space loses a bit of its beauty when packed to the gills, yet gives a regal feel overall. After inspecting the grounds, lounge about with one of their 12 themed martinis and maybe, if you can find a seat and can flag down a server, you’re set up to party on the ice.

Folks have already covered Shmooze's lackluster crowd, specials, and cheap drinks... so I just want to give a brief shout-out to the friendly, accommodating staff, and mention that if you're not remotely hip, there's a bit of action here for you here!

There's the slutburger of course (she works the main bar - when slutburgers are $5), and ladies with sheer topping, and the house beats here are monstrously great! Lots of nice fresh mixed peeps, chopped vibes and red-faced guys, and seasonally changing owners... I haven't figured out when the changeover is, but I've noticed that sometimes you get yummy management-esses, and sometimes you get dried cranberry-brained owners! Still the deal on 5-7 drinks is crazy enormous. Yum yum yum!

If you're looking for cheap drinks after work, this is the place to go. However, if you're Asian, good luck to you. It's totally obvious that the guys at the door allow line by-pass to the tall, thin, white females of Toronto. No questions asked. Obviously if you know these door guys, you're in too.
Overall, I like the environment on the inside. There's a mix of people in their late 20's to 30's. Unless you go early, 5pm on a Friday, you're pretty much stuck in line for at least an hour if not more.
