    Review by Rick Levine
Seoul City is not your typical Korean restaurant. In fact, with designer lights, Queen West patronage, and ambient beats, its look and feel is suspiciously slick. The food and design is bright and mod - there's no missing the glass-fronted eatery on a drive-by - luring a young, not-necessarily Korean clientele to Shaun Park's restaurant.

The true skin-deepness of Seoul City is in its rhythm. The service is crisp and fast and almost intuitively aware. Chef Jonathan Leung's dishes include traditional Bulgogi and a selection of rice bowls as well as some fun items like Korean Seafood Paella and Black Cod with Miso. Ingredients are mostly local, seasonal and first-rate. Try the excellent Juniper and Peppercorn-encrusted Carpaccio or the home-made kimchi (a pungent pickled cabbage with spices). Seoul City epitomizes ambition.

Korean appetizers, like the Korean Fried Dumplings ($8) or the Oxtail Ravioli ($9), served in thick oxtail gravy, are authentic and exotic. However, you don't need to be that daring. For example, the spicy Chicken Drumettes ($8) are very chicken-wing-ish, marinated in green onions and garlic.

For mains, the Cornish Hen ($17), oven-roasted and stuffed with shisho and ginger rice, is especially good when dabbed with the ginseng ginger dipping sauce. The Braised Short Ribs ($17) didn't fare as well. The overly rich mirin merlot glaze overpowered any taste that the tough meat may have had. Even the added rice patty couldn't save the day. Nonetheless, the lightly broiled black cod in miso ($17) was truly a wonder, fueled even further with a piquant cucumber coleslaw and expertly steamed rice. The plate is embellished with bright dots of daikon. This is more interesting than rubbery short ribs any day.

Our experience at Seoul City was terrific. The staff was very attentive but if I may offer a tip, please don't clear plates off the table while others are still eating. That's a definite no-no!

The food was very tasty but we were left wondering if there was a dessert menu because we weren't offered one.

Space was very cool. Definitely had a NYC vibe about it.

The food and service was spectacular! We were very impressed because the owner stopped by all the tables to talk to everyone.

I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

A fantastic little restaurant with fabulous service and stylish in a NY Soho kind ow way. I came in from NY on business and ventured over to Queen West to try out the restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. Being a New Yorker, Korean food needs no introduction, but I was more than pleasantly surprised by the dedication to perfection that each dish had, the fantastic presentation and the service. Best dish: the brised "Kalbi" short ribs...one of the best I have ever had.

We went to Seoul City - taking a chance - for an early New Year's eve dinner. As we walked in the door we were pleasantly surprised...very contemporary and even though much smaller - in terms of design a contender with the likes of the newly opened KiWe King West Kitchen. We ordered the appetizer tasting platter (Chef's recommendation) for four and everything from the crab cakes to the octopus salad was great. For the main course we tried three different dishes, the soft shell crab, the kalbi ribs (a bit on the sweet side but authentic)and the four mushroom rice bowl. I've eaten quite a lot of Korean food in the last year and although the recipes and combinations were not completely out of this world they were both authentic with their own unique take on Korean fusion. In the end- the food tasted great, our server was friendly and attentive(keep in mind only 3 other tables were occupied at the time)and it was good value for money.

As I stepped out from parking my car just across the street, Seoul's little place between the Sweet (Dufflet's) and Sour (Coca) caught my eye in a way that any new restaurant would. I could see the largely unique lighting fixture in the main window, which I'm sure was purposely positioned, and with good reason! I began my experience with a Korean Green tea and a wonderful starter of 3 Scallion Pancakes topped with Cured Salmon (house made apparently), Creme Fraiche and a Wasabi infused roe. That really got my taste buds going. To continue on with the seafood trend I started upon myself , I couldn't help but try an order of the Chilli Fried Shrimp before my main course of a Black Cod lightly glazed with Miso. Both which were amazing, although I found the veg a little too crunchy for my liking, but the taste was there. Now, when I received the choice of dessert I was hesitant to try the creme brulee, only because it's not something you see on an asian menu. However, it prooved to be rewarding to find a trio of brulee's on my spoon. The traditional vanilla was as good as most places offer, but the Green Tea and Red Bean were unlike anything I've ever had! That's right, Green Tea Creme Brulee! I nearly spoke my server's ear off after trying it. I could not stop commenting on it! She was very appreciative and a great company considering I wasn't the only one there at the time. All in all, nothing stood out more than the flavours and plating of their menu. I'll surely return to experience more of what "Western" Seoul has to offer!
