    Review by Trevor Finn
Impudent creatures of leisure, we want everything all at once. We want the proverbial cake, eaten and owned. We want the house and the condo, the car and the motorcycle, the trophy wife and the stripper girlfriend; we want to eat and party in the same place (see George Constanza's experiments with food, sex, and television). Though most of those things aren't likely to happen, the last option is a very real possibility (I know, you were hoping for the stripper).

Enter Satori Supperclub. Taking over the building that previously housed Queen West's ill-fated Habitat, Richard Bailey (The Fifth Social Club) has injected the room with a shot of Zen. In true Satori form (Satori is a Buddhist term describing permanent enlightenment), the space is now heavily layered with stone and wood elements, with a naturalistic aura.

Though it's doubtful that Buddha's form of enlightenment had anything to do with resto-lounge aesthetics, Bailey's does. His team has designed a space that functions as both a restaurant and lounge - in the proverbial yin and yang style – echoing Habitat's mandate (the gloriously swarming bar area feels almost consciously evocative of early Habitat, before it misplaced its mojo.)

Don't dismiss the menu here (Greg Couillard once manned this kitchen at Habitat's launch). Executive Chef Scott McDonough (the Fifth Grill) heads Satori's culinary team. Though the staff is entirely French-trained, the cuisine is worldly, with heavy Asian and Canadian influences (though, there's no sign of Beaver Tails nor poutine). Bailey wanted an accessible, competitively priced menu that befits Queen West.

Not only was the service dreadful (the waiters were unbelievably rude, sarcastically informing us that waiting 1.5 hrs is normal for an restaurant meal as they were not a fast food outlet ñ should we want fast food, we should go over the road!!), but when the food did finally arrive (over 2 hours later) it was utterly tasteless. Not only were the meals uncooked, but presentation was appalling and we were made to feel very uncomfortable throughout the meal ñ as though we didn’t deserve to eat there.

A large group of friends and I attended Satori for a Birthday party, and were quite pleased that we did. They had more then enough room to accommodate a party of 20 that wished to dine and then later dance it up with out having to travel to another establishment. With everything I desire in one place-great food in a pleasing atmosphere with some kick ass music, why would I go anywhere else?

When I heard all the hype about this new Supper Club, I just had to try Satori out. I tried the famous flatbread and the shrimp trio. Both were warm, came out in a timely fashion and to top it off our waitress WAS excellent and checked on us frequently. After dinner we sat around and ordered drinks and just lounged out all night. The music picked up around 10 and was nice and upbeat! For all those who say Satori sucks and they won't be back, sadly you are missing out! Don't let one poor server ruin your experience and view of this fantastic new Supper Club...realistically they're probably fired already...lol!

New to the supper club scene, Satori is a welcome addition.

The décor is impressive and the atmosphere is professional without being pompous.

Our waitress was knowledgeable of the menu and was able to suggest entrees and wine to suit our tastes. Dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. We decided to stick around for drinks, as the place filled up with an after-dinner crowd. The DJ was awesome and it was a great night.

    I’ll definitely be back.

I was excited to try Satori, and was disappointed I did.

The service was bad. It was as though we were an inconvience to our him. He was unpleasant and slow, regularly forgetting our drinks. He did check on us frequently though!

The food took so long to come and was disappointing. We ordered the shrimp trio and the flat bread as appetizers. I think maybe we got the bread that the other reviewer sent back because the bread was absolutely burnt to a crisp on one side. The good news is, is that it worked very well to stabilize our wobbly table because the arm of the chair that fell off when we sat down would not have worked as well.

The atmosphere is nice but not worth enduring the bad service, mediocre food, and flat beer.

Sorry Satori, but you need some help! Won't be going back.

Had dinner @ Satori last night with 5 other girls for a friend's birthday. Although the new decor seemed promising at first glance, our experience was anything but...
Our waiter seemed more interested in talking to the bartenders than serving us, or quite frankly any of the other patrons.
In terms of food, one of the appetizer flat breads had to be sent back as the bread was burnt to a crisp, literally. How a chef would even let that out of the kitchen is beyond me...
Further, two of us ordered grouper @ $28 a plate, and it came out luke warm and very tough. Needless to say, I didn't finish my meal AND if you're going to charge me $28 for grouper, you better damn well believe it should rival the fish @ Joso's but sadly, this was not our fate @ Satori...
Also, for a restaurant that had only 50% of its tables full at any given point in the evening, I'd love to know how they managed to sell out of both lamb shank AND the bottle of wine we ordered when we asked for a 2nd bottle at the table???
Definitely a disappointment, and won't be returning...
Keep this up Satori and I give you 4-6 months AT BEST!

    SHITORI SUPPERCLUB
The first time I went there it was awfull so I decided to give it another chance. Fist of all, there is absolutely no parking anywhere(get there a 5pm or get ready to walk 8 blocks).

Second This place has the worst service of all time. It took about 20 minutes for every round of drinks to arrive and the place wasn't even busy.

The menu is very small yet everytime I came to order something the waitress said that they didn't have it. I mean c'mon it was Saturday night, you think they would stock up.

There were more bouncers there than actual people so that made us feel safe but then again who's going to do me harm if there isn't anybody there. The place was dead.

45 minutes after ordering our meal they finally arrived, only one problem, the main course arrived before the appetizers. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress she said rudely " don't worry about it, it's coming". WOW!!!

So we tried to eat our main course since by that time we were sooo hungry that we swallowed the cold meals without even chewing.

Discusted after the meal, we brought all this to the attention of the manager. This guy had no clue about customer care and simply shrugged his shoulders. Unbelievable!

By the time we concluded are meals, we realized it was to late to go anywhere else so there was only one thing left to do ...Get drunk . So we ordered a bottle of grey goose and realized later that they charged us for all the redbull's (like $5 bucks a pop) ...what a joke.

Well... we got the bill, and on the way out the manager that had been avoiding us all night came by and had the nerve to say " I apologize...I will take care of you the next time you come in" ...

Trust me budy, there won't be a next time.

I merely write this to warn my fellow restaurant goers about this shit hole of a wannabe supperclub. There are wayyyy to many great old places and new up and coming bars and restaurants in this great city to waste your social time and money SHITORI SUPPERCLUB.

    Good luck and Happy Dinning
