ong gone are the late-night karaoke bar shootouts as Ossington Avenue continues to gentrify with its own style of hipness. One of the newer players on the block is Reposado, promising a tequila soaked experience. The new space, brought to fruition by local entrepreneurs Sandy MacFadyen and his partner Catherine, will appeal to the mature tequila crowd with an offering of standard size premium grade cocktail options or a grouping of three samplers.
Toronto's first “tequila bar” aims to add some class to the margarita in a city where the drink is commonly made “either sickly sweet or as a slightly boozy snow cone”, laughs MacFadyen. This dark, long and narrow lounge is more suited to a night of delusion rather than a night of debauchery.
All 1.5-ounce margaritas are made with fresh squeezed juices and a choice of 32 topnotch selections, ranging in price from $6.00 to $24.00. Wine connoisseurs have a choice of 3 reds, two whites, and 2 bubbly’s, most Spanish. For those craving a cool pint there’s a choice of Erdinger, Delirium Tremens, St. Ambroise Pale Ale & Stout and the 5-dollar Stratford Pilsner. There’s also a good selection of imported and premium bottled brew behind the bar.
Drinking distractions include a plethora of unique Mexican items like tequila-cured salmon with a serving of spicy Mexican style pickled vegetables, homemade chips with onion dip, and a loaded cheese plate. The idea behind food menu is to merely complement the alcohol goods - as opposed to the more conventional visa versa. MacFayden attributes the culinary bent to prior restaurant and catering experience combined with a love for cooking creative fare and making amazing cocktails.
