R avi Kanagarejah has left a void in the now-closed kitchen at Mildred Pierce where, for ten years, he was unequivocally the master of all things soup. Now he has become a restauranteur in his own right, as the man behind Ravisoups.
The concept is as simple as it sounds yet his perfect potages are a perplexing fusion of flavors. Jerusalem Artichoke Purée, Curried Apricot, Red Lentil are probably second nature for Kanagarejah, who has been cooking since he was a teenager at his family's restaurant in northern Sri Lanka. Besides soup, the resto also serves up sandwiches and pastries, all prepared by Kanaharejah's wife. There's also Ravislaw, a unique take on traditional coleslaw. We are sad to see Mildred Pierce close one door but we are glad that Ravisoups has opened another. Ravi's seats 25+ indoors and another 30 on the patio.

8 Reader Reviews | I love Ravi. The menu is always exciting and the quality of food is great. It is a good thing that the food is so good, as I really hate the service - it reminds me so much of the "soup nazi" episode on Seinfeld. Yup - it is expensive though so be prepared.

Ravi is a maestro of multi-tasking, runs a tight ship, cusses like a sailor - in at least two languages - and is, on any given day, the best soup chef in town.

Ventured to Ravisoups at the urging of my friend Janice. The goal was to try the hot Indian soup which apparently they are known for. Good stuff man, this stuff is killer. Flavourful broth which you can immediately ascertain as Indian spices. After spending years of chasing down down super swanky expensive haut cuisine, I find myself more and more loving food that people with little means have spent centuries perfecting. I will be paying many a visit to Ravi for the soup as well as all the other tasty fare they seem to be dishing out.
