Best to have these with a side of herbed French fries; an extra $2.50 gets you pile of fries with that golden, caramelized color that tells of the perfect union between sweet, expertly chosen frying potatoes and hot, hot oil. I asked our sweet server why fewer and fewer places are making their own fries - what's so hard about cutting potatoes and throwing them in oil? I might as well have asked a cheesemaker what's the big deal with spoiled milk: "There's care in our fries," she instructed. "If it was just about slicing potatoes and putting them in oil, everyone would do it.”
If you have the opportunity to order only one thing, the choice is the signature Crispy Crunchy ($6.95) - big cubes of crispy tofu on top of thin cucumber slices, forest mushrooms and green beans marinated in a wine vinaigrette. Other options include the South American risotto ($8.95); a humus wrap ($5.95) with avocado, red pepper and organic sunflower sprouts; a tortilla (whole wheat or corn) of lentils, curried grains and cucumber ($6.95).
Sandwiches here include a big, fluffy, not-overworked grilled cheese, grilled to medium and served with home-made ketchup. Creamy, good, and layered with cheddar, and faux bacon ($7.95). Full stomachs didn't prevent us from sampling from the salad section, and I can report that the “Spud Salad” ($6.95) is a fresh, rewarding manifestation of the form, combining Yukon Gold Potatoes, Green Beans, Lemon and Dill in a gratifyingly tart Dijon, and more of that Faux Bacon. However, the Beets and Spinach with Champagne Vinaigrette embodies everything I was taught to fear as a little boy, so let's just forget I ever mentioned it.
Then again, sometimes when I get mentioning I can't stop, so I might as well mention that Pulp Kitchen isn't perfect. Later day folks will notice that they are out of luck, as the restaurant’s lights go out at 5:00pm. The “Home-Made substances, like peanut sauce and ketchup taste like they started as a mix; the soups are a bit erratic - a spectacular soup one day may be dull and bland the next Still, if you brave the cold, cruel world of Queen East - and please note that due to the arrival of, Yes, construction season - you, too, may find yourself rejoicing in the offerings of a sweet, little cafe, never aware that the whole deal is vegetarian.

4 Reader Reviews | Easily my favorite restaurant in Toronto. The food is amazing and always fresh, the servers are helpful, the atmosphere is super relaxed and although it's a little pricey, you get what you pay for. I would prefer to spend more and not have weird additives or mystery ingredients that are found at other restaurants. The only improvement I could suggest is if they were to move closer to my apartment. It's good enough for Samuel L. Jackson and Natalie Portman, it's certainly great to me.

This review is for brunch only. I really wanted to rate this 1.5 because they attempt to do some interesting things on the brunch menu. However, the service is poor - think some disinterested high school students. The food is fine if you are used to eating wheat dust and oat chips regularly. Fortunately I'm not vegetarian. The sadest part of the experience is that because the restaurant is located in the new Queen West of the East they get away with a location tax on top of the vegan tax. Stay at home and enjoy freshly squeezed carrots.
