Clearly, Pizzeria Libretto's Chef Rocco Agostino and Proprietor Max Rimaldi have stuck to their guns and created a truly authentic Neapolitan pizza experience. Located at 221 Ossington Avenue (just south of Dundas), Pizzeria Libretto adds even more flavour to a street that is already becoming one of the coolest hangs in the city.

Upon entering, I was taken in by the laid-back atmosphere of the space. Near the entrance, a long bar buzzed with a healthy dichotomy of early-evening grazers enjoying both food and drink, chiselled chandeliers hovering overhead. The entire eatery effuses casual chic, with walls painted emerald green and funky lighting dropping just the right amount of illumination on the people below.

Complete with wooden fire logs embedded in the open kitchen design, diners are able to view the wood oven and witness the creation of the only real Neapolitan pizza in Toronto (it uses the guidelines set out by the Veracé Pizza Napoletana Association and the Italian Government; seriously).

Pizzeria Libretto boasts a casual atmosphere; one in which diners gather around a communal table located near the open kitchen. My experience with communal dining has been a negative one for the most part, however, I found myself actually enjoying it here. I was able to see what others had ordered and I was relieved that the clientele is truly the cool, chilled out type that typically haunt the streets of Ossington.

Atmosphere aside, people go to a pizza joint for one thing: the pizza. And the food at Pizzeria Libretto certainly doesn’t disappoint. For appetizers, I ordered the bruschetta and the bolognese salami. The salami was amazing, capped off with perfectly flavoured olives. More impressive, however, was the bruschetta. Far from your typical tomato and garlic stick, Chef Agostino's bruschetta comes with sausage, pesto and goat cheese; another with mascarpone, apricot and hazelnut; a wild mushroom option and the P.L.T.(prosciutto, arugula and tomato).

One word: SOGGY SOGGY SOGGY!! Apparently ours pizza was not the only one to be soggy, read the reviews. It is a re-occurent theme. Exotic oven but soggy pizza. It was so soggy that you could not even pick it up and eat it like pizza because all of the toppings would slide right off into a heap on your plate.

    Definitely would not go back.

Trendy is the last thing this pizza joint is! Sure Libretto is in a trendy neighbourhood, but the pizzas are as traditional as it gets. I was just in Naples and we went to Di Michele, the originator of this style of pizza, and this is as close as you will find here in TO. Bravo!

There's much better pizza (and yes I know it's "just pizza"...thank you James Chatto) close by at Vecchio Frak or Gatto Nero on College. This is ok, but chewy crust and soggy middle. If trendy tickles your taste buds then you've found the right place. I suggest Monday night, no more than two of you, and a willingness to sit at the bar.

Staff is ok, an occasional smile would be nice, but I don't think hipsters do customer service.

Well here we go another typical fad restaurant in toronto, with a BAAAD attitude.
no reservations? fine then dont lie to people when we ask how long to wait for a soggy pizza, uncomfortable chairs, poor service?

then they wonder why they go out of business? save your money try
Terroni , at least you get in, and are treated with some respect as a paying customer

what a waste of time it was

    thats my two cents

Sorry, I have given this place two chances, the first time was ok but still wet and soggy, the second time, the worst. I don't know how this place survives in these tough economic times!! I would rather buy frozen pizza.

I've been to Libretto several times. Best times to go are MINUTES after they open the door, no line up then:) Pizza's good, love the olives. BUT.. a word about the communal seating. What's with the over packing of seats around the communal table? During my last visit, the chick and I were packed in so tightly with others that I felt that my elbows needed to be glued to my sides. On that visit we got up and left, and went to Via Alegro just to enjoy another great pizza joint but with ample space around the tables. Oh well..

I tried going for dinner and 2 hour wait on a Saturday night is too much for anyone. However, lunch is the key. We had the place to ourselves and our waiter was really nice (Derek I think). We had the lunch Prix Fixe for $15 Apps were great, but the Margherita is so simple yet my fave.

I was born in Naples and ate at DaMichelle and Trianon in my neighborhood. For VPN pizza there pizza is not 100% authentic, but 95% for sure. There pizza is a little crispier than what you will find in Naples. For Toronto this is the closest you will find.

To all who have children, please be advised that this place is NOT children friendly. We were advised that they don't take reservations, so we arrived early at 5:30 pm. We were told the wait time would be about 20 min and ended up waiting for an hour before we got our table. They said they had no high chairs available when two were just sitting at the back of the resto. Our pizza came 1 min after ordering, but these were stale. Perhaps someone ordered but didn't pick up their pizzas? Oh, needless to say, no where in the restaurant would you be able to change diapers. Except on the floor, that is.

Pizzeria Libretto sucks ass. The people who run it for the most part suck ass. They are rude and self important and act like flirting disasters. I hope they run into many obstacles and get back the crap they put out.

Who advertises that you need a sense of urgency to work there? So retarded and ridiculous. I over heard one of them talking about one of their guests and I was so tempted to go tell the guest what I heard. I was sitting at the bar and two of the so-called managers were having a little rude word about some women dining there.

    These guys are over-inflated pigs.

    This place is TERRIBLE.
    Long line ups.
    Bad customer service.
The food is burnt yet soggy (not sure how they managed to do such a poor job).

There are many better pizza places in Toronto.

If you get stuck in this area for dinner I'd recommend walking across the street to BQM (Burger Shoppe). The food, atmosphere, customer service and drink selection is 100% better than Pizzeria Libretto!

Pizzeria Libretto... you need to get down from your high horse and humble yourself.

We went to Pizzeria Libretto on Friday night with a party of 6. We were told the wait would be 1 to 1.5 hours which was fine to us - we put our name on the list (it was the first one on the page) gave the hostess our mobile number and went next door for a beer in an empty pub. After an hour one of our friends went back to the door and reminded the hostess that we were still waiting for our table - she said it wouldn't be much longer because we were next on the list. Perfect!.. or so we thought. Our friend came back to the empty pub to tell us that we were next so we settled up our tab and walked next door to the long line at Pizzeria Libretto. We then stood in the door way for another hour. Finally after getting a little frustrated (and overly hungry) a group of 6 girls were given the large table by the front window. *The hostesses asked 3 older ladies to leave the table and move their wine to the bar stools so they could fill the table with new paying customers!* HORRIBLE! Eventually my friend asked to see the list because these girls were saying "Only 45 minutes wait, that wasn't bad!" - the hostesses had squeezed 2 other names above our name (which was first) and also drew a line from above our name to the side of the page to write the name of the 6 girls. We were so upset at how we were treated and the hostesses & host didn't care about customer retention. They gave us a lot of unwarranted attitude and said that we would just have to wait another 30 minutes for a large table. We were so hungry and upset that we left and went to a nice Portuguese restaurant (white table cloth restaurant on Dundas just east of Ossington). The hostess ended up calling us 10 minutes after we left to tell us that they had a table for us, but we refused to go back because of the way we were treated.

I was serious about trying real "Italian" style pizza, I was so looking forward to this. Maybe my expectations were a little too high. While it certainly wasn't bad, I didn't care for the weighted down feeling you get after eating something really greasy. Two slices of pizza will do that to you.

Besides being real greasy, the sauce lacked that bite you'd expect from a good tasting pizza.

Pretty disappointing. I've had way better "real" pizza.... Sorry!

The thing is that I go to Libretto almost every evening. They order for me when they see me walk in the door. And you can't really give four stars to a place you eat at every day; it's like saying you're a four-star person, y'know? And I'm not that.

    I'm a five-star person, and I eat at five-star places.

I had a very expensive lunch at Libretto's this afternoon. My date and I ordered two pizzas to share, the home made sausage and the salami with gorgonzola cheese. We have been wanting to taste the Libretto pizza for months! There was so much hype about this restaurant! My date (who is an Italian chef who has lived in Italy) and I have been sampling pizza experiences at home, around Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and New York to find the best wood oven in our spheres outside of Italy. Sadly, our pizzas arrived in six minutes and were too burnt on the outside edges and completely SOGGY in the centre! We noticed that there were at least seven pizza cooks and only two other tables in the restaurant. Why weren't the pizza chefs keeping an eye on our pizzas? Why weren't they spinning them in the oven, slowly cooking the pizzas so their dough was fully cooked and crispy with a slight burn on the crust? Possibly because there was an infiltration of pizza cooks making drinks for themselves in the bar and watching TSN volleyball on the plasma tv. There has been so much hype about this restaurant. They should tighten it up.....SOGGY is NOT an Italian word.

    Gary Shaw's Rating: 3 Stars
This place is always busy! Ate there last night and was put on the waiting list and told about a 30 minute wait. Went across the street to the Painted Lady for a drink. Got a call less then 10 minutes later, just as we received our drinks, saying our table was ready. This has happened to us before.

Waited almost 5 minutes for a waitress to take our order last night. Most other times the service was quicker. Ordered two pizzas, which came our quickly, but it was a lot thicker than normal and no where close to being as tasty. Our waitress offered to get us new pizzas but we declined after seeing other pizzas around us. Not sure if there was a new chef working but it was the worse pizza i've eaten there. Left disappointed.

    21. Anonymous's Review :: November 06, 2009
    Anonymous's Rating: Stars
I selected the rating for no stars for a reason. I really wanted this place to be as stellar as it's apparent reviews. I have given this place a few tries to get it right. Unfortunately time after time they have fallen below standard.I suppose a real "Neapolitan" pizza is another way of saying burnt around the edges and undercooked in the middle. Although call me crazy I don't think this is in anyway how a pizza is suppose to be served. Congrat's on having fresh ingredients and some special oven but hate to tell you its not enhancing the taste of your food. You have misunderstood the reason for your line ups and buzz, which are not attributed to your amazing food but merely the latest craze. When the novelty wears off as it does for most places in Toronto, your seriously lacking, tasteless and poorly cooked food, with miniature portions will become a has been/never was.

??? where is the great pizza in this city? the neighbourhood might need some more dining options ... first visit to pizzeria libretto, very friendly and accommodating staff, nice buzzing atmosphere, good wine and the arugula salad was delicious … and all those plusses will take me back if I happen to be in the neighbourhood again, just to give it another shot… but the pizza was both soggy and burnt! Shame because the wild mushroom pizza had great potential…and the eggplant pizza was so spicy that I could barely choke down a slice – my whole mouth was on fire!! Seems like the crowds are making the kitchen a bit sloppy and inconsistent.

I have been to Libretto on a few occasions and both times it was good. This last trip, however, I rue to say was shocking. Upon me almost taking a bit out of my slice, my girlfriend noticed a wood screw in my pizza. I don't have to tell you what kind of damage a metal screw can do in your mouth. To the manager's credit the meal was on the house, but I had to ask that he do it instead of him offering -which in my opinion is just bad customer relations. Given the amount of damage biting on a screw can do to a tooth (god forbid swallowing it) I'd say the least they could do was pay for my meal.

On top of that, the manager told us the screw must have fallen off from the shelf above. Now I looked at the shelf over-head and it is a metal wrack shelf --on of those chrome wire ones that you can get at Canadian Tire. What the heck a wood screw would be doing there right over the food prep area is anyone's guess, but surely even a fool can see that potentially dangerous food contaminants don't belong anywhere near the food prep station. I would suggest anyone who intends on going to libretto (where incidentally the food tastes very good) read this review first. You just might get a little more than you bargained for on your pizza.

Needless to say this "incident," I consider a food health and safety violation and, usually, something like this presupposes an attitude at the restaurant. That is to say they just aren't paying attention to, or following the proper health precautions a restaurant should take when making your food. It also calls into question their cleanliness. They just aren't strict enough when it comes to food safety because something like this, as freakish as it may sound, should never have happened. Wood screws belong in hardware stores and garages, not sitting on open shelves above food prep areas where they can fall into pizzas. Next time I'll go to Terroni instead.

Uhm... I must have missed something incredible here... let me share a little.

I call up my friend Rachel and ask her if she wants to go out for Pizza. she says she shouldn't, but that what the hell, lets go! I tell her about Libretto and how it is supposed to be good and all. She picks me up and we drive there.

Sadly, our pizza was lacking something, something IMPORTANT... but I can't tell you what it was. For one thing, the crust was burnt and hard as a rock. I am a crust lover, but this was not edible. I have had better in New York though. Overall an average experience at Libretto, nothing to really go back to

The atmosphere is fun and friendly; wait staff attentive and cheerful, but I'm not a fan of the pizza. Honestly, my "authentic Italien pizza" was more like a crepe. I had the salami pizza, and althoughg the toppings were fresh, all the ingredients slipped down to the middle. The crust was flacid, and doughy. It was more like a crepe than a pizza. I like the pizza I make at home much better! Too bad, because I really like the vibe the place offers.

sorry nicey thing you are missing the points. i am sure you know the cost of ingredients because you are obviously involved in libretto and trying to defend a decision that from any business stand point can only be described as dumb dumb dumb.

quite frankly i am thrilled that libretto has made those changes. i order off the menu and as is and love the fact that in the last 6 weeks i have never had to wait for more than 5 minutes but i am sure you know that.

and as far as Reposado goes maybe you are right and they are going to make more money charging a five dollar cover and never being busy. don't think so.

so i think it is you that better find a new hood.

The West End Robber's Rating: Stars
I think that you are reading too much into things, This Ain't Rosedale. Do you have any idea how much good quality ingredients cost? The substitutions thing at Libretto is probably to cover their ass so they don't become the next Jamie Kennedy, not a ploy to lose customers. Same with Reposado. They have to pay their band and perhaps the old method was not working out for them. Libretto serves real quality food. I enjoy them quite a bit. Great staff, fun vibe, simple, quality food.

And last I checked Libretto was still bustling, and so was Reposado. Perhaps you should find a new trendy hood to move onto, Rosedale.

i think libretto and the other's on oz have decided they don't want the crowds anymore. perhaps they are trying to placate the bureaucrats at city hall who have decided the street needs a rest.
libretto no longer has line ups. what they were doing with the substitutions worked.
head down to Reposado where you could barely find a seat and what will you find. no lineups and lots of seats. why????? well they used to hand around a jar for the band. it looked like everyone contributed at least a fin. well now they are charging a cover and you know what. people just keep on walking.
they go to the latest hot spot Jezebel. now remember this is a dive with rear lane access. no lineup. and the two goofs working the door say if you are not on the guest list they are full. well a buddy we were waiting for texted down that the place was empty. are these people a joke or what.
well finally you can head over to Watusi. they are not chasing clients away yet.

I loved the vibe in the restaurant, loved the service, but was a little disappointed in the pizza. I have spent the last two years in Italy and really love the thin but crispy crust. After seeing this place so highly rated I thought I would finally check it out today. The service was fine, it wasn't crowded, I enjoyed being there, and I also like the Ossington Street location. But the overall experience? eh.

I did not like the crust, and the pizza as a whole itself wasn't very tasty either....

I did want it to be good, but it wasn't.

I am not OK with a dry, bland pizza. I have no idea how 'good' could be associated with this pizza much less 'best.' Not even a little close to best. I would have been less annoyed if it even got near 'mediocre' I wonder if they gave me the crummy pizza cause they don't want types like me hanging around. Very clever. It definitely worked.

Ossingtonification and This AInt FH... I readily admit the oddness of charging extra for toppings. I'm just saying that refusing is equally odd. But you (and all these 95 reviewers here) have me intrigued.
How's this: I'll visit both spots this weekend, just to see what's up (a few people have told me that both pizza spots have changed their protocol - some for the better, and some not).

Interesting though, no? So Much Fuss Over Pizza

Sorry So Much Fuss Over Pizza's Review.

    You miss the point.

If you don't want to make substitutions (which may be totally justifiable for a number of reasons) go ahead and say no substitutions but don't try to make a few extra bucks off the deal.

And actually the staff at Terroni's will always try to help out. Want some anchovies on your Pizza they will gladly bring you a dish on the side.

Ossingtonification's won't be the only one walking off his pizza on the way home from Terroni's.

Maybe the guys at Libretto have decided they no longer want line ups on to the street and this is just a ploy to get rid of the line. Maybe just maybe they are on to something here next you want to a knife to cut your pizza that will be $2.00 and if you need to use the washroom don't even ask.

Only time will tell. Will let you know if there is a line up tonight when i am driving down to Terroni!!!!!!

Ossingtonification and This AInt FH - Sorry for jumping into your already-in-progress discussion, but at Terroni there wouldn't be an extra charge... as they habitually refuse to make changes to the pizza as described on the menu. Ask for cheese and the waitstaff is instructed to simply say no. I shall stick with Libretto at this point.

As a resident of the neighbourhood, I too anxiously awaited the opening of this place. Since its opening, I have frequented it at least a dozen times. Always enjoyable, but truth be told, always falling just a wee bit short of Terroni.

Last night I learned that my regular substitution was now to come with an increase in cost. Fine. But then when I asked for the chef's mother's homemade hot peppers, I was told that this too would result in an added chage!?! WTF?!? What pizzeria charges for hot peppers, a condiment? Especially one that is lined up out the door 7 nights a week.

Convenience be damned, I will walk the extra 5-10 minutes to Terroni.

This place would have been a four until my latest experience there last Friday. Living in the area to us this place was the bomb. Great food. Great Wine. Great Atmosphere.

Last Friday however my girlfriend made her usual order of the rappini pizza and requested sausage instead of goat cheese. The waitress responded they would make the substitution but there would be an extra charge. The week before they were more than prepared to accommodate the request.

If that was not bad enough when I asked for the fresh hot peppers with my pizza the waitress advised me there was now an additional charge for those as well. There was no charge for the salt.

I think the extras were only $4.00 in total but that is not the point.

No one likes to be nickelled and dimed. Perhaps we except that Air Canada can do so but if this place wants to keep its neighbourhood rep it better shape out or guys move onto College or SummerHill and ship out.

People lived in Italy and claim that they know everything. But the fact is that there is no Italian food in the world. Period. Food in Italy can be different dramatically from city to city. The pizza served in Naples is way too soggy and doughy that there is no way of picking it up that you have to use a knife and a fork. The pizzas at Libretto is inspired by those in Naples, but a touch crispier since N. Americans like it better.

I have lived in Italy, If you give libretto's pizza to a "Napoletano" he will through It in your face! To much sauce on the pizza, very soggy, the condiments are all over the place, sorry but Terroni still is # 1 on the list. The only good think was the glass of proseco.

Honestly a lot of the people on this website don't know anything about pizza... First it is not pizza napolitana.... I'm Italian, I've lived in Italy and eaten pizza in napoli... pizza napolitana is thick whereas this is thin.... that being said it is still a good pizza, the toppings are the best in the city and probably overall its the second best pizza you can get here after Marcello's. Close to authentic, but overall very good. The place itself is very chic and the primi are great

This is how a pizza should be. Just like Alton Brown on the Food Network episode about prime pizza, you need to have the right ratio of crust and stuff. Libretto has that golden ratio.

Certainly the best pizza in the area. The restaurant is small, and I've yet to just "find a seat" on the weekend, but the wait is usually short.

So after the manager came and spoke with us at the table...it felt more like he was trying to have a debate or argument with me, about if i was happy where I was seated. So after voicing my concerns to the "manager" he clearly didn't recognize and listen to what I was saying, so me and my friend got up and left...there are countless restaurants in this city that I rather support and Libretto sure as hell is not one of them...too bad since the food is pretty good..sadly bangs and manager are ruining it...and as front line workers they should be engaging with the customers, not pissing them off.

I would never recommend this restuarant to anyone...the hostess at the front with the bangs, you know who your are...is outright rude and the manager, has no idea how to do his job and lacks any sort of professionalism. Well it all started when the hostess sat us down, at the front window, and i asked if she had an seating in the back, at which point she rolled her eyes, and said "well you should of said you wanted the communal table" as if i had any clue what the communal table was, and secondly i preferred a table in the back...then she sat us down at the communal table, and which point i asked if the table beside it was free, and she said "well if you want that table you will have to wait", and i was like ok, i don't minde waiting...anyways my point being is I have never felt such low customer service, and poor attitude and professionalism. I hope the owner really thinks about who he has working for him (manager/hostess) because they are really destroying the restaurants potential.

I expect the stellar reviews are influenced heavily by Libretto's exceptional service. A great Italian guy owns the place, and they literally went out of their way yesterday - by staying open an extra 10 minutes--to make me and my friend happy. Unfortunately, the fare itself is mediocre at best. Go somewhere else in the area instead.

Look, having said that the real pizza does exist only in Italy, and that the real pizza napoletana exists only in Napoli:

    1) The pizza at Libretto is OK and considered that the place is not in Italy or Napoli, overall it is one of the best in town

    2) We can't really compare Libretto to Terroni as they make completely different pizza styles. I don't feel saying which one is better in terms of pizza, it's a matter of tastes. Libretto makes a pizza more Neapolitan style, Terroni more thin-crust (most popular in the rest of Italy). I am not a big fan of the other meals at libretto though (like appetizers, etc.), I think Terroni's are better and also the offer more variety..

In conclusion, I would say that Libretto is one of the best places in Toronto, which try to replicate the neapolitan pizza...

Whatever they may claim, they do not serve pizza. A bread product with a set of extremely low quality ingredients slopped on top does not make a pizza. I am 37 and have eaten pizza in many countries, including numerous cities in Italy, and this so-called restaurant has no right to name the horrendously prepared dough a pizza crust.
As for Martini Boys - while it is commendable that the Ossington neighborhood is promoted, and people from other parts of town are encouraged to shop and eat there, you are doing a disservice to the restaurants that offer good or even edible food in the neighborhood by recommending a place that serves some of the worst grub in the city.

I had first visited back in October and wasn't overly impresssed and so I said I'd give them another whirl. After a second visit, I am still not impressed. What is everyone saying when they claim this is great pizza? I'm really confused. My prosciutto and mozzarella pizza was at best, alright. It was so chintzy on the cheese that it was more of a red pizza than anything else. The prosciutto tasted like a dead pig - I realize this sounds absurb and so what I mean is that the meat tasted old and expired?! I don't know.
My date's sausage pizza was better but forget it. Libretto, I give up.

just before christmas, our family decided to visit libretto on ossington, to see what all the fuss was about, and i'm still scratching my head. upon entering i was impressed by the decor and the open view of the kitchen, my mouth was watering, surely with lineups out the door almost always the pizza must be superb. i ordered the sausage pizza, it was awful tasteless and soggy in the middle. my son had the proscuitto pizza which had a bit more flavour but nothing to stand in line for. i also ordered gnocchi gorganzola and was dissapointed with the flavour or lack there of the portion was way too small. i also took a quattro stagione pizza home to my daughter who said that it looked and tasted like it was cooked in a microwave. my son and husband ordered their homemade ice cream, the lemon was really good, the chocolate was ok. i also found their coffee to be a bit on the watery side. truly i don't understand what all the fuss is about. just a few blocks away on harbord is "terrazza" a hidden gem as i'd like to refer to it. their pizza is far superior and by gosh their gnocchi gorganzola has great flavour. forget the horrible service rec'd at terroni and the long lineups at libretto, try this quaint place at 372 harbord street called TERRAZZA.

So delicious. We shared the Sausage pizza which was gooey and yummy, full of flavor. The ambience was fun and full of energy.

The bartender was a doll and offered us some Lemoncello to help digest the chili oil we doused our pizza with.

The pizza is authentic Neapolitan. I was in Naples this summer, and I have to say that this is the closest thing to Neapolitan pizza on this side of the Atlantic.

I think this place is terrible compared to what it promises. If this was just a local pizzeria then it would be fine. But it does not live up to what it says.

The decor, organization of the tables, service, and most importantly management are below standard. This place tries to pass itself off as an upscale establishment meanwhile it is a cheap knockoff and is insulting to the patrons.

Finally the pizza, it is not Neapoletan. I have been trained in making this pizza and have lived in Italy, I was taken there by a friend. I have to say that this pizza was made as if a kid out of school just made it.

I went to a place in Calgary, Pulcinella, this is Neapoletan pizza. And there was no problem with the pizza being burnt. My reccommendation, don't go. Not worth your time or taste buds.

It is popular because it has the best thin crust pizza in the city.
Unless you happen to get a pizza on an off-day (I haven't yet), is absolutely on par with the best pizza you will get in Italy.

This is the original style of pizza.
It's not necessarily better than Chicago deep dish style, or the North American standard (extra cheese and dough ball in the middle) pizza - it's just different. If you like thin crusty pizzas with good toppings... then hit it.

It doesn't matter what your heritage may be, this is the real deal - authentic and tasty. I can understand how you (Gregg) might be disappointed, but be assured - this is the closest to genuine as it gets.

People you are missing the point here. It is the best pizza in TO! Of course its not as good as the real thing from Italy so do not expect it to be. Its hands down better than Terroni!!

Sharon... it really is just pizza. I also went here expecting spectacular pizza, alas, was a bit disappointed. It's not bad... just not great.

Overrated. The pizza crust is nice, but the sauce is tasteless, and lacking in acidity. The toppings are carelessly slopped on, and some of them (duck confit?) just don't work. The concept may be real Neapolitan, but the exrcution just doesn't cut it. And if, as Sharon says, pizza is supposed to be a cheap stable, then this place has missed the mark there too. In the neighbourhood and want a better *tasting* pizza: I suggest Bar_One or Terroni.

Hey Pat Ryan are you a complete loser? This is the best pizza in town and is the closest thing to real pizza made in Italy. Pizza is a staple of Italy due to its low cost and while certainly not a luxury food one would be a fool not to appreciate its great taste!

Overrated. Granted, it is nice to see innovative spots in this area, it really is just pizza.

in agreeance with majority of comments made above. We had our name put on a list for a table and was told quite rudley that it could be 15 mins it could be 2 and 1/2hrs for a table. Everything else on Ossington was busy (ie-Foxleys, etc) so we decided to find a bar and maybe some pre dinner snacks to fill the time till our table was ready. We went to a little place immeditely next door to Liberetto (i think called Mojo or Modo?) it was empty. we proceeded to order bottles of wine and beers, this place doesnt have a kitchen yet (but app. will be serving Japanese fusion in the coming months) so we asked if they wouldnt mind if we got take out from Liberettos and brought it next door to eat. They said no problems, by this time we had been waiting 1.5 hrs and we were still 1 table way from being top of the list. The girls went to Liberetto's next door and within 10 mins they came back with 5 steaming hot, yummy pizzas.....it took 10 minutes...after waiting all that time. unbelievable..people are not turning over the tables fast enough, wanting to be seen there! what a joke...my suggestion to you is if you want to try the pizza (which is good, but still not as good as Terrroni's) go next door to this cute eclectic bar and drink good imported and well priced red wine (nothing over 40$), and get take out from Liberettos...and then give the cute little Japanese girl (Amy) a tip for being so hospitable...unlike the rude door wench at liberettos.

August 4, 2008 and friends visiting from Vancouver. Had to wait over an hour for service after finally getting a parking space in a lot 10 minutes away and having circled the various parking lots waiting for a car to leave (we were 10 to 1 doing this so I finally left and parked in another parking lot a ten minute walk away). In the meantime, my friends were already hungry before we got there and had been waiting for me to park the car for close to an hour. There was a kind of private parking lot that charged a pile of money that I would have out of desperation used if it hadn't already been full. One of my friends is lacto intolerant so she ordered half of her pizza without cheese and when it got there, it had cheese on it. So we had to wait another half hour for her food to get there. I complained to the management (he said his name was Nicolas Canizares) and he finally said he would knock off some of the cost. When we got the bill it wasn't discounted. They said it had been but we had checked the prices carefully before and asked for the menu. All I can think is that this guy we were dealing with, probably one of the owners, probably thought we would not notice. Even when confronted he persisted in lying to us. We asked for the menu and proved our point - still no go. The location is good and the food was tasty but the management leaves a lot to be desired.

    First the good:
We visited last Thursday and only waited 20 mins. Service was not friendly in the list but efficient. The olives were in fact quite good. The communal table made the experience fun. The atmosphere is hustling and bustling. I liked the action. The crowd is so 'Ossington cool'. They have spelt dough (I unfortunately have a wheat intolerance). The pizza was good. The 900 degree wood burning oven cooks pizzas in 90 seconds. The pizza and wine prices are totally cheap for this city.
    Now the bad:
The house made Capicollo wasn't Capicollo at all - it was more like a Pancetta. It was fatty and wet because it was so greasy. It was also $6 for 4 paper thin slices. The piece of Rochetto cheese was tasty for sure but was another complete rip off at $6.
Their Quattro Stagione had 3 deliciously wonderful 'seasons' but the quarter with the various dried mushrooms was so nasty tasting that I picked them off (did I mention that I love mushrooms?) This truth makes the former a huge statement).
    Overall a fairly good experience.
Will definately return to give them another go.

This is without question the BEST pizza I have ever had. It is also the only pizza I have been able to eat in the past 8 years that did not give me acid reflux. The crust is on the thin side and when I am very hungry I can eat an entire pie myself. They tend be a little chewier (rather than crisp) which I find preferable.

Busy... line-ups and all, Libretto is worth the hassle. I suspect the heat will die down, but the place really does pump out good pies.

If you're hungry...it works. pizzas are alright...I personally think Pizza Pizza sucks ass....I like this outpost...no option there...you get better quality. Great service...old school crink...and usually fast.
Decent fare...much cheaper than other places in the city.

Tough to rate a restaurant that runs out of pizza dough by 8.30 on an evening they advertise being open till Mid-night .

New restaurant opening 101 says over order the food and overload on staff !
They might have wanted to ease the pain of people being turned away by giving a Pizza credit? Not the best first experience .
