ooking for Pomegranate Hummus in all the wrong places? Get your bean-loving butt to Lola Csullog-Fernández's Pimentón. Walk through its cheerful bright foyer and up to the counter, and you will swear you've died and gone to Spanish and Mediterranean fine food heaven.
A sliver of a store, Pimentón (pronounced pi-men-TON) is almost invisible on the crowded little block, but we kind of love that about it. You can pop in for your daily carrot soup. But trust us, you'll want a nosh on the other offerings. And that's before you taste the sandwich lineup, which, in our humble opinion, is among the best in these parts. Pimentón's sandwiches have the filling baked in – kind of like a baked wrap - the dough is made in-house, and baked daily.
The Chicken version is stuffed with manchego cheese, green onions, spinach, caramelized onions. The Roast Beef is with blue cheese, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions. Others on the card include a tuna with olive oil, sofrito sauce, onions and red peppers; and the ham wrap, with provolone cheese, nicoise olives, arugula.
Take out mains include the Mediterranean Style salmon, brushed with a house-made mustard sauce, finished with a pomegranate glaze; Chicken in Almond Sauce; and the Lemon and Rosemary Chicken. The fare is tasty in a made-from-scratch way, and it's a real toss-up as to which meal of the day is best — breakfast, lunch, or dinner — so our advice is, take it all home.
